Toll Window on H
Posted by Bill on July 22, 2016 at 10:46 pmGuys,
I recall there being a thread recently on toll window motor replacement on an XL.. I have been having intermittent issues with my toll window and tonight if died. How big of a deal is it to replace it on an H? It looks stupid tight up in there. I see what looks like the motor and then there is some type of belt my son and I worked it and got it to mostly close so I should be good until I can get it into the shop.
Thanks
Bill

Bill,
I recently did my entry door window motor replacement. Obviously getting access is the time consuming part because of all the trim and the panel fasters, but once I had the motor exposed it was a simple matter of drilling out three pop rivets, removing and replacing the motor, and using the provided screws and nuts to secure it back in place. The motor is used left or right hand and Rock Auto has it for less than $26. Cardone 82-144, which is exactly what Prevost 197925 is, but they want $99.

Bill,
Hang in there, hopefully someone with an H can shed some light here, I also would like to know the procedure.
-
I think Les L replaced the motor on his H. He said access was difficult. We are Prevost owners. Difficult doesn’t phase us. Impossible takes some time to do.
-
It is very difficult, depending on what the converter put in or on the drivers left panel, and in the steer/driver bay.

I’m having a few items being done at a shop near me…tour company with alot of Prevosts on the yard. My toll window acts up intermittently. I asked about replacement and was told Prevost gives 8 hours and the motor/mechanism itself was, I think, $300 or so…. He went on to say it usually takes them about 5 hours.
Anyway, enough to where I decided to let it get a bit worse before I go for that! I might just go with duct tape and a WalMart shopping bag to cover up the hole!
OK>>>>UPDATE.
Dave (the technician doing my work) called me yesterday….said he had looked at my H3-45 toll window situation and said it would only take “a couple of hours”. He indicated he had taken the switch panel off and seen the apparatus within reach and rather than being rivetted, as some are, it was bolted. He was confident it is an easily doable job….we’ll see. ty

This may not be a good comparison but on my XLII I think my total time to remove the inner door panel, drill out the pop rivets, install the new motor, and button it back up I have about 2 hours invested. This is on the entry door, a Liberty conversion.
I also spent some time, not included in the above to add a means by which I can release the door latch from the inside or out if the latch mechanism should fail. I will show folks interested, but I am not going to say more than that on a forum in case any bad guys are reading my post

I am not going to post what I did for the world to see. I will show anyone interested that is going to be places I will be at. Right now I am planning on the two Lakeland Carlisle events, both November and February, as well as the Oysterfest at Bella Terra in April.
I can say I can unlatch the entry door without the use of tools. If I am inside when the coach door latch fails I just use the feature I added. If I am outside and need to enter the coach, I have to open the driver’s side door on my XLII, turn on the key, push the button on the dash to make the entry door window go down so I can reach my door latch release.
-
There appears to be no way to even reach the window on an H from the steering bay, so I assume the entire driver side interior has to be be removed to get access.

-
I am pretty sure doing something like what I did might be coach specific.
I can say if I did not have access to my dash via the door of my steer compartment I would simply add a power window switch for the entry door in the first bay so I could lower the window. On an XL with the latched slider window a complete departure from my solution may be required, but the object is to have a means to deal with a failed latch that is easy and does not require tools.

Tom,
I just sent an email to Leon to see what he thinks about replacing the toll window motor is that require the dash to be removed or if it can be done from the outside.
I also asked if this would be best done at a Marathon shop or by Prevost.
I will post what he respond

did they do it all from the outside or from the inside?bill

Yes Bill they had to take the panel off from the inside. They put it all back the way back like it was.
