  • Toilet dry up?

Posted by Art on May 31, 2020 at 11:56 am

So sitting here all this time I flush the toilet once in a while so water does not evaporate and get crusty, Is there anything we could pour in toilet to keep it from drying up?? Maybe a little cooking oil or olive oil???

You should exercise your water pump at least as often as toilet dries anyway. Shaft seal can stick.

When we park the bus for storage I clean the toilet, and then using a plunger I push the water from the toilet, dry the bowl and I don’t have to worry about the build up of calcium or minerals on the bowl.

When I go into storage mode, I flush with the pump out so there isn’t any water in the bowl. It’s worked well for us.

A light, yet complete “layer” of olive oil will prevent evaporation, but as I type this now, wonder if anything would grow on the olive oil if left for an extended period of time. Not sure if it would matter, but perhaps baby oil…?

Doing that assures you of getting a ring of mineral deposits at water level.

As water evaporates it leaves behind whatever minerals were in it. So let’s say 1/2 a week’s evaporation is 1/16 of an inch. Whatever minerals were in that 1/16 of and inch are now on the bowl just above the water line that has dropped.

No water in the bowl, no minerals to leave behind.

I always just periodically flush while not in use. I also think it depends on the toilet make, seems logical that some should remain wet and not dried out.
