Today, I shed some tears …
And this has nothing to do with owning a Prevost. Or, does it?
After having owned our Nauticat 40 sailing yacht since 2001, which I did personally sail across the Atlantic from Holland (The Netherlands) to Boston in 2002, we decided last year that we much prefered the land yacht mode of traveling. After a lot of soul searching, we let some people know that we would consider selling her.
Well, we did not advertise but a friend of a friend of a friend let somebody know. When they came to see the boat, and stayed on board for 4 hours, they left later and handed me a generous deposit check.
Today, after passing the survey with ease on Friday last week, they came to finalize the purchase and to move on board.
They did not even try to negotiate the asking price!
Why? Because the boat is in excellent shape. What needs looking after, has been looked at and serviced and she is exactly what the buyers wanted. A no project boat.
So with tears in my eyes, I went to the bank this morning to deposit a 6 digit check
The morale of this story is, the better you keep your bus serviced and repaired, the more you get when you go to sell.
I will miss her a lot!
When we bought her, it was my dream to “sail around the world” when I retire. I spent a lot of time and money to prepare for that but, this darn Prevost bus got in the way and messed it all up.
My wife is happy because, in her words, we can stop the bus and ask for directions.

Great looking Boat there Ronald. Sure you will miss it but that has to be better than getting old and letting it go down hill and knowing you do not have the enegry to keep her up anymore! Sail on Brother wheter Land or Sea! Keep the memories, no one can buy those!

The thought of sailing around the world in a 40 sail boat just stops me in my tracks. My Prevost cap is tipped to Ronald for even thinking out loud about doing that!

Hi Robert,I’m a land lubber myself but certainly appreciate those who enjoy sailing and riding the high seas! You must have some incredible stories to tell and hope I meet you one day to hear them. That would be something I’d look forward too!

Ronald, I can completely relate. We sold our sail boat in the year you bought yours. Sailed across Lake Michigan about 20 times, 75 miles, 15 hours. Congrats on doing what you like, the memories will sustain you.

Take it From someone who has done the “boat” thing. No statement was ever more true than the well known phrase, “the happiest two days of a mans life are the day he buys his boat and the day he finally sells it”.
The only thing I have ever wasted more money on than Prevosts was yachts. Been there, done that. Good riddance!

Have to agree with the old saying about the two happiest days. Had a 28 ft. cabin cruiser… I motored rather than sailing and my longest trip in it was from Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini and Cat Cay, across the Gulf Stream and back. Hats off to Ronald for his seamanship and bravery! Kirby
