Tire valve cores
Checked the tire air pressure last night at Loves, on right rear inner drive valve the air gage gave errors and the mechanical gage was reading slow unlike the others that pop up quickly.
Thinking the core is the issue, blowed some shop air, no change. When we removed the core found out that is it a core with about 3/4 inch extension on it. Tech said they only carry short/normal ones in stock and was not sure if they are exchangeable. Suggested TA shop may carry them.
Questions:
– is the core extension needed or a short / normal core can be installed?
– source for the cores with extensions

Either one will work. They are just different designs.

Here is some information on tire valves;
- Valve cores come in a few different varieties — long (standard) and short (high performance); brass (standard); and nickel plated (for tire pressure monitoring systems). If your vehicle has a tire pressure monitoring system, you’re going to want a nickel-plated valve core, because brass valve cores within aluminum valve stems can cause corrosion.

Thank you Mikee and Al…so it should be safe to replace with normal/short core that Tire Shop / Loves uses?
