Tire Support
Posted by Thomas on June 21, 2012 at 8:05 pmI saw once, not sure where, but a device that kind of looked like a manual fork lift to slide under the tire and lifts/supports the tire for easy removal. Has anyone else seen this item and know where to get one?
Thank you

Actually the old GMC had a device in the tire well that did that. It was a retangular device with wheels on one of the small sides. You slid it under the tire when it is off the ground and balance it with your hand and slid it away with the other hand.

Thank you. That was it. I have 20,000 lb bottle jacks and I have several tools as I am a contractor but are there any other specialty tool you would recommend having as a bus owner for preventitive maintenance or general repairs.
any suggestions would be appreciated.
This is our first bus and we have now owned it for one year. the bus was regualarly maintained and serviced at Prevost Nashville and Senators so I just want to be sure to keep up on it. The closest Prevost is 6 1/2 hours from me in NJ

I use this tire dolly. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200500582_200500582
It is easy to use and handles our sized tires easily, doesn’t take up much space, and is a lot cheaper than the alternative.

Jon and Tom,
I thought you two were superheroes and just manhandled your tires with one hand throwing them to the side. 🙂
The tire dollys MUST be a ruse to keep your true identities from being revealed.

Brian,
I’m lucky to be able to handle the hub cap at this point!

Well I do mount and dismount my own tires from the wheels. I do mount and dismount my own wheels. But I gotta tell you the tires and wheels ain’t getting any lighter. I did that on the last coach because when the wheels don’t have the tires mounted on them it is the ideal time to make them look like new with a buffer. Not so easy when the tires are mounted.
On the last coach I replaced the 50DN alternator and the fan clutch and I think I would rather be doing tire work.

Sawdust, that looks familiar. Where did you find one of those? The last time I saw one I think Jon was burning them to start a BBQ…

Sawbonz, you are mistaken.
He starts his campfires with those and lites cubans with those.
He starts his BBQ with these…..
but he BBQ’s with these…………….
