Tire repair needed?
When I parked yesterday upon our return home, I noticed the cut in the tread of the passenger side steer tire. It is still connected securely, but it does lift up. Does it need to be fixed, and if so, how?

If the cut does not extend beyond the depth of the tread I doubt if any action is needed. Looks like you hit something sharp and it cut the tread but did not pentrate the casing at all.

I agree with Jon’s comments. If I were going to anything, I would put some repair cement on it just to prevent it from flapping.

I have seen damage like that before. Sometimes it is not a problem, and in others, it can start to chunk out. Being that it is on the steer, I would take it to a Michelin dealer and have them take a quick look to get their input. A steer tire blow out is not fun. I have had a few in trucks, and they all carried less weight on the steering axle than our coaches do. Even if you don’t have an accident if the tire goes out, think of the damage it could, and likely will do.

Depending on age, condition, tire history, etc., you may be able to swap it out with the tag tire. Mine are all new, they have not been curbed, run low on air, etc., so if you know your tires, it’s an option.

Main concern would be safety. A real close look at the cut and if it penetrated the tire casing at all.
You might want to look at the other tires just in case there was more then one sharp object on the roadway.

Thanks all. The tires were all replaced new last summer when we bought it. I will probably take it to Marathon to work on the leans this week, and will have them take a look. Sounds like in addition to have them inspect the other tires when on the lift I can have them put some glue on this one and swap with a tag tire.

hmmm… glue in the Marathon shop might be a problem as Marathons are built tough with nuts, bolts and screws.

Come on Al! you know all reputable shops have Gorrilla glue and duct tape. The uptown places have duct tape in color and free crazy glue!
