I know that our tires mostly age out rather than wear out. Driving 5-10,000 per year probably makes that a certainty. But for those of you that drive a little more, what type of tire life do you expect in mileage terms?

I knew that my tag tires would have to be replaced this year. They spent three years on the front and 27 months on the tag. I was hoping to stretch my drive tires into spring of 2017. When I was at Jeff’s in January he pointed out that I might need to start thinking about replacing the drives. I tried my best to ignore him but I did start thinking about it.

When the bus was in the air Tuesday at Prevost Ft. Worth I noticed the time for changing the tags was now. Marcelo at Prevost told me some of their customers use TCI in Lancaster, just south of Dallas.

I have used TCI twice before in other parts of the country so I gave them a call. They honor the Michelin Advantage Program and they had 315’s in stock with recent date codes and could get me in.

I actually made the appointment for Tuesday evening but when I saw that I was not going to be finished at Prevost I changed it to first thing Wednesday morning.

I pulled in at 7:40 and they got me in at 8:30. This TCI was easy to get in and has a big area for them to work. I knew I was in good hands when James, the lead guy, asked me how I wanted to do this. He said to show him the jack points and not to be shy about letting them know if they were doing something wrong. That was refreshing.

James and his crew did a great job and I was well pleased with their work.

All the date codes were 1116.

I was billed wrong at the office and it took nearly two hours to get it straight but they were great about it. The office was covered up. I will watch my card to make sure it is billed correctly. The Advantage price was $640 each.

Three of the drives were Michelin XZA 2 Energy’s with 12/11 date codes and had been on since 4/6/2011. They had 75,608 miles on them. The forth drive was a Michelin XZA 1 Pilote’s with 22/09 date code and had been on since 3/16/2010. It had 89,348 miles on it. I would not hesitate to put them on a trailer for a few more miles if I had one and needed them.

None of the four were wearing unevenly that I could see.

How many miles should we expect with regular usage?
