I don’t want to throw gas on the fire between this site and POG but I want to suggest folks use caution when advice is offered on either sight.

I don’t know the guys expertese but someone commented about getting tires whose date codes were several yrs old. A guy by the name of Dale Farley said the clock doesn’t start until they are used.

I responded by saying that is not true, and it is not. Manufacturers such as Michelin and Goodyear are emphatic is saying they will prorate the warranty up to six years from mounting, but after that there is no warranty. But the tires can be used if inspected up to 10 years old as long as the sidewalls aren’t cracked. The clock starts running the day the tire is made.

If anyone has an accident due to failure of a 10 year old tire that might be within the six year use period, they not only get no warranty, they are on the hook for any damages if they caused any.

This sight has better advice, not always right, but the other sight doesn’t compare.
