TIRE ISSUE

Just had Jeff look at mine and it is just like Georges but not enough to cause any wear on the drivers inner drive.
Have just a hint of scuff on the inner curbside drive. Been running 95 forever and just found that Prevost
recommends 85 for my axle weight. Gonna stay at 95psi. Inner wheel is steel.
Very little room between those bolts and the tire, obviously!

Featherlite recommends that I run 120 in the drives, which I do, with steel wheels inside. No rubbing.
I’ve had 3 Featherlite H’s, and have run 120 in each, but I do pull a stacker often, and don’t let pressure down when I’m not. Tongue weight of trailer adds 1000 lbs. -
Has this been brought to the attention of Prevost.
With the number of busses running around out there surley they have seen this.
I am going to check mine tomorrow because for about a year I ran aluminum wheels on the inside drive as well till I changed them back out for steel. (Which is a good story al to itself), Truk’s fault, thats what Jon told me to tell everyone.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think there is a problem that has to be addressed.
I’m assuming neither of the coaches in question had an modifications or damage that would cause rubbing. If the tire rubbing is due to lack of clearance when using the correct wheels, tires and tire pressures as stated in the shop manual or the tire pressure calculators on the Prevost site and there is evidence of rubbing, no matter how slight this should not be ignored.
I would suggest all H owners use a good flashlight and get down and look across the underside of the coach to the opposite drive axle inner tire and look for a sign of rubbing. If a number are reported here I will contact Prevost and bring this to their attention. If we have the problem, so do seated coaches and entertainer coaches.

No respect, I get no respect… Buddy cries on my shoulder about wanting my Chrome Wheels and wanted Nancy to feed him at our house for 2 days as well as have my friend at Action Tire come to my house to change out his wheels. So here’s two pictures, the first one shows how I pulled out all the stops to get my buddy to come to the house, I still owe him big time and the 2nd photo is my favorite, he’s leaving. Now he’s blaming me for his steel wheels, where’s the love.

Oh hell, the love was there alright.
First morning for breakfast Tom says lets get your Jeep and run into town for breakfast. (said his truck wouldn’t start) well we pull up to the Sunbeam bread thrift store and I said what the hell we doing here, he says oh they have great honeybuns and cinamon rolls. Ok I let that slide. Mine were out of date only by a month and a half.
For lunch that day I had a grilled Spam sandwhich on bread, from the thrift store. Toasted it so you couldn’t tell it was stale.
That night for super we caught fish out of the creek in the back yard. I think here in the south we call them Gar. I had to get some sort of white paper off of my fish. Come to find out it wasn’t a creek it was the out flow from Tom’s sewer holding pond.
So when the love stopped comming my way I figured it was time to go.
Thank the Lord he and Nancy sold that place. At night you could hear banjo music like on the movie with Bert Reynolds, (Deliverence I think was the name of it)
Next time I am going to Jeff’s for all my work, at least I get fresh donuts every day.
Oh and the last straw was he came down an asked me to only use one A/C unit cause he electric bill was getting too high.

That fish was carp. The paper must have been some kind of packaging – not.
Can’t believe you got to run the a/c, I know he has some funeral home fans. The paper type stapled to a wooden stick handle. Makes your arm tired when in the Georgia heat.

I want to know what Tom charged for sitting in his driveway and eating his carp. I’ll bet it was in the higly inflated price for the wheels.

Today, while the coach is in storage, I got down on my ‘creeper’, rolled around and shot a beam of light to the inner dually’s on the backside of the tires.
There is a framing beam that blocks the view from both sides as I can only see about 2/3rd’s of the tire sidewall from the ground up. So, I got out my trusty extension mirror that I use to see if anything is on the top of the slides and took a good look at the side-wall.
NO SCRUBBING.
We’re good.
On edit: We are at 30,000 miles.

I think that this rub issue is caused by 1)not running enough air in the drives or 2) doing a lot of tight turns with the tags up when you are manuvering around. You are putting another 18,000 – 20,000lbs on the drives when you raise the tags and since the wear is worse on one side than the other in both mine and Georges it could be explained by making more turns to the right with the tags up.
Just a thought.

That may be a good explanation Kit, hard part will be trying to sort out why some have the problem and others don’t. I dump the tag on my H for hard, tight, hard surface turns with no rubbing.

Don’t lift the tag and was running recommended tire pressure…have now upped 10#….we’ll see. Geo.
