Thanks Dale. I will do that if the word from the radiator shop is not good. I am not sure what size is used on the XL models but my core is 39″ X 34″ which is the bigger size for the H3 models. Don’t know if that is the issue or not. John in Nashville told me that they even send radiators out to be recored as opposed to getting new from Prevost. My current radiator was really in bad shape when I got it out to look. Literally falling apart in the floor as I was taking off the shroud and fan guard. I do not know how it cooled as well as it did. The fins look to be at least 1/3 stopped up and looking in the lower port the tubes are covered in a hard white substance. In the bottom of the tank are clumps of the white stuff and if feels like rocks.
Also need to ask about my fan. I have the plastic thermostat fan and it looks fine. Is it supposed to free wheel at all? How do I know if the thermostatic part is working?
Thanks again for all the help!!!! -
Tom, you can forget anything I have said, I do see now what your driving. I just noticed the 91 part of your info and never seen the H3 part.

Tom,
If you have the plastic fan you’re in good shape. I don’t remember from my 8V days, but I believe your fan is fixed and will not free wheel. If I’m wrong, someone will correct me here. Dale?

The radiator shop says he can fix our old rusty radiator. I am going to clean up and paint the top and bottom brackets and make new strips that hold the tanks out of flat bar.

I am trying to take the fan off to make it easier to clean it and around it while the radiator is out. It is the fixed fan plastic and I have removed the 6 bolts that should hold it on but it will not come off. I have sprayed PB Blaster where the shaft comes through the fan and at the back where it meets the coupler. I have even run aputty knife betweeen it and the coupler. What am I missing? I am not trying to remove the coupler, just the blade.

Speaking only as if it were just like mine. Mine did not just fall off after removing the bolts, I hammered on the side the bolts go in the blade as to break the rust loose. I hammered around the bolt patten 4 or five times before it broke loose.

Thanks Dale, that is what I was hoping for. I hate to start hitting on something without knowing what it does because I wind up replacing more than I intended. 🙂

The recore is costing me $2300 which is $1200 cheaper than new from Prevost. I am ordering new thermostats to replace at the same time.
