  • Time for new Hot Water Heaters

Posted by Towson on September 1, 2018 at 10:29 am

Who here has replaced their Atwood EHM11-SM hot water heaters in a Marathon XLii? Marathon says this unit is no longer made. They have an alternate unit that is currently back-ordered and requires some bay modification. On line, there are some Kuuma and other 11 gallon marine brands out there but all have a slightly larger foot print than the original model. I’ve even looked at going to a single 20 gallon unit but they all are just a little too big to fit in the existing space. The easy button would be to go to twin 6 gallon units and put them in the exact location of the old ones but I’ve then reduced my hot water capacity by nearly 50%. Let me know your thoughts and thanks.

I had Kuuma 11 gallon units stacked to replace the stacked Atwood’s after 18years of service. The Kuuma’s have a aluminum tank with aluminum ports for braided tubing. All of the same features the original Atwoodshad to function as orignally installed by Marathon. We purchased the units from West Marine so they have national warranty coverage.

The water bay did have to be redone slightly. It only took a day for old to come out and new to go in with two technicians working it. Total cost around $1,5000 which included parts and labor.

CoachPro in Eugene, OR did work when I bought the coach back in April this year.

I replaced ours with Atwood. Will never buy Atwood again.

Here is a link to our replacement. https://prevostcommunity.com/forum/threaddetails.asp?Category=Plumbing%3E&ThreadID=7727#68437

The dual control thermostat is available at Home Depot. There are posts about that too.
