Thirsty Gen
Well for some reason my generator has begun to consume coolant funny thing is I hardly run the generator it only has 1500 hours it’s a powertech 20kw I find it hard to believe it has thrown the head gasket it has never over heated and even if it does get hot it has a high temp shutoff any ideas?

Mine started leaking down over a period of months a few years ago. I could never find any coolant on any surface. Many months later, the level was low again.
I pulled the radiator and took it to a good shop. The first thing he asked was if I used the fill cap built into the radiator and I said no. The was no way to reach the built-in fill cap. Mine has a pressurized cap around in front of the generator.
He advised that the leak was probably coming from the filler neck and he suggested removing it. He removed that fill neck and then could find no leak anywhere else.
I reinstalled the radiator and have not lost a drop of coolant since.
This is my guess on why I could never see any coolant. It was a very small leak for sure and I have huge fans pulling air through that radiator. I think the fans were removing all the moisture with the air and it was vaporized and blowing out underneath the bus.

Hmm I think I’m going to try and disassemble my cooling system and see what I find, I have looked for a leak and not Been able to find anything thing that’s why I’m confused as to what could have gone wrong.

Was the coolant changed recently? Perhaps trapped air has been working its way out requiring topping off. If thats not the case, why not find a tap in the cooling system where you can place a valve and an air fitting. Then you can bring the system up to temp then apply 4 or 5 psi of air and look and listen for leaks. Disassembling things randomly seems like seems like a bad way to isolate this issue.

Another way to find coolant leaks using a pressure tester to simulate actual running conditions.
Probably find a used one on ebay cheap.
Some kits come with adaptors to check the condition of your radiator cap also.

Check the freeze plugs, mine was leaking from them.
