  • Tght squeezes and recurring issues

Posted by Per on May 21, 2017 at 10:16 am

Camped out in Flagstaff the previous three nights to take some visitors to sights in the area. Normally we stay in Black Bart’s campground, but they were full due to some group coming in, so after checking several campgrounds, we ended up at Kit Carson Campground. The site was plety long enough, but a bit tight. Opening up the driver’s side baggage door, I had about four inches of clearance–a slide would not have worked! Thought I’d have a problen with the trees on the PS, but the way the coach turns, no problem. I’m starting to think you can squeeze in a Prevost anywhere as long as the spot in long enough!

We had about 31 degrees at night, which was not a big problem, except the coach settled all the way down in the rear. I had brought it up to Marcello at Prevost Ft Worth, and he claimed a cold weather leak is not all that uncommon. At home and here in Las Vegas the bags stay up. I may have Jeff look at it when we see him in November. Then the Webasto didn’t want to fire at all in the morning–it did fire later in the day but smoked a lot. Shouldn’t need it for a while now, so will look at it later. Lastly, the displlay screen for the Techlink just up and quit. I get the Marathon Logo, but the subsequent screens don’t appear. Tried to reset the coach, but it made no difference. We were planning to stop by Marathon in Grand Prairie next month anyway on our way to American Fleet, so I’ll have them look at it. But it sure would be nice have something fixed and stay fixed!

Anyway, the coach runs great, so we do enjoy being on the road. Milage took a hit with heavy winds first couple of days, and had our first experience of driving in snow, although not enough to worry about road conditions, but when the snow turnes into rain, the coach got filthy. Will fix that when we get home–had to leave my waterless wash at home to make room for the visitor’s baggage.

    Bottom line–still love our coach!

Prevost and leak chasing. I have spent a fortune on mine in the past years. Several trips and hoses, vavles, and fittings. Fort Worth and Houston with Cate Blanche, It has helped but still will go down in a few days. Sounds like you all are having fun and that’s what counts.

Having a service company chase your leaks is the fastest way know to man to empty a wallet.

Per, I am wishing for one of those web sites where the owners can get rich off of dues also. I’m so poor I still have to grow my own food, and repair my own bus.

    Brett,

I just called Hish. We’ll stop by for a visit this afternoon. Would love to see you guys too, if it works out. We have dinner reservations at the Fleur in Mandalay Bay at 5 PM, other than that we are free.

Per, Flagstaff is at nearly 7,000 feet, which you probably felt if you did anything strenuous. Thin air is the bane of the Webasto. At that altitude or above you will almost always have some amount of smoke. My current bus has Aquahot, which smokes less than my prior bus with Webasto, which I assume is simply because the identical burner is newer. We still get smoke and soot at elevation, just not as much. When on ski trips with the older Prevost, we were always embarassed by the nasty soot we left on snowbanks near the Webasto exhaust after parking overnight. If you are planning to spend a lot of your Webasto use time at elevation you could adjust the burner, but I was never able to eliminate smoke entirely. It is possible that your Webasto starting problem was related, but we never had that problem so I can’t offer any advice.

As the Prevost tech told you, cold temps and altitude will affect even the tightest air suspension systems. Run your aux compressor if you have one.

    Thanks, Bryan.

Nothing too strenuous at 7000 feet, just hiked down Walnut canyon (185 feet down steps) and part of the Bright Angel trail in the Canyon! I’ll look at the Webasto later–no need for heat here in Vegas! My aux compressor is shut off from the coach with a valve. I open it up if the coach has been sitting to tighten the engine belts. Don’t know if opening the valve would prevent the coach from sagging, but even if it did, it would be too noisy for our guests. I shut it off at night while in Flagstaff.

Had a very nice visit with Hish and Sue. Very nice people, enjoyed meeting them, and hope to see them again in the future.
