  • Ten Year Old Coaches

Posted by Archived on November 25, 2015 at 6:49 pm

Had a conversation with a salesman at Hearthside Grove Tuesday about deed restrictions and other matters in preparations for a possible lot purchase in the near future.

Very polite gentleman and apologetic about the fact they can’t allow coaches older than ten years old in the park for rental or purchase.

I told him there were owners there that I knew that had coaches that fit those restrictions and that some of the folks in the Prevost Community organization were thinking of having a rally there in the near future.

Stuck by the ten year old rule.

I understand the therory of the rule but as we all know, most people would not know if my coach was a 1999 or a 2005.

Its appearence is that of a newer coach and like just about every other coach I have seen in the last nine years of ownership, they all look new or newer than what one would think.

Don’t know how these places will handle this but it leaves them out of my equation.

I love the area and Hearthside is very very nice property.

Admin, if this needs to be in another thread, please move it there for me, thanks.

    Buddy,

    I can’t believe what I just read.

There was talk about a rally in the fall of 2016. I’ll be crossing that tentative rally date off my calender.

Business must be good in northern MI.

FWIW…I feel your pain Buddy getting to know you while at the Lakeland event. Seeing your highly detailed 1999 Prevost. I admired the attention to detail you have given your bus. It looks brand new.

Buddy is correct, if you want to spend 150 – 200K on a resort lot, guess you’ll have to look elsewhere. Unbelievable. I did talk to Dean and he explained it’s because of Bi-Laws and Covenants. Like Buddy, I know people that own lot’s there with Prevosts older than 10 years.

    There goes the rally….

Never sought to purchase there, but we have stayed there a half dozen times in the last 4 yrs with a 12 and 15 yr old Prevo. Never been an issue. Geo.

    Thanks guys.

I told the guy about the rally and he didn’t know how it would happen.

I had this trouble a few years ago, I called to make reservations and was told I could not come so I booked at the KOA, which is also one of their properties.

After the first day I said something to the folks at the KOA and they said wait a minute and made a phone call then came to the coach and said I was welcome to come back to Hearthside and stay so I did.

This ten year rule is becomming more common at the nicer parks.

We’ll just have to see what happens.

I may be wrong, but I suspect that in Hearthside’s case it may be the HOA that sets an age for coaches when buying a lot. If they ask when you rent (in our case they never have),just tell them any year…nobody knows anyway.

When I visited Heartside Grove this past july I went on a tour and talked with the owners son, I asked about the 10 year rule and he informed me that it was not used as far as a prevost was involved and I would be welcome any time…..rent or own

I am not in a position to tell a resort how to write their rules. It is not my business. But I have a real problem with an unequal application of the rules which is the case here.

In this instance the resort has essentially told Buddy to go away, but it allows owners whose coaches violate the rules to remain in the resort.

I support the decision to not hold a rally there unless and until the resort amends the rules regarding the age of coaches.

As an offset to this issue I am now officially adopting a policy regarding RV resorts that have arbitrary age restrictions for coaches. If a resort has a policy regarding age, and the resort is older than the allowed age I will not stay at the resort. They do not meet my restrictions.

Good policy Jon. I would be very interested in knowing those parks. If care and appearance of a coach have anything to do the “sometimes” policy Buddy would certainly be welcome anywhere.

I’am attending the Barrett-Jackson Auction again this year. Can you imagine BJ restricting cars older then 10 years old or even at this time in history over 100 years old.

Actually some cars have sold their over 50 years old for more then the what the above RV park property and build out would sell on the market. Pictures are required on all BJ entries.

I can see a rule where it should read …..Late model class “A” RV’s, pictures requested with all applications.

That’s the end of my soap box opinion

Funny, in the bus world where money spent during ownership of a Prevost can far outreach most folks, that Prevosts motorhomes are lumped into a category that includes 50 year old stakehed trucks with a tent mounted on it. At premium lot rent prices, like the resort we just bought into, owners of 50 year old paper ma chez RVs aren’t going to pay $1150+ daily rate

Petoskey Mi (Hearthside)a very beautiful area, but like Bella Terra down south and Rancho California RV Resort (Murrieta, CA) are three Resorts we have tried to stay) because of their age restriction policies, we won’t “BEG” them to stay in their resorts by sending in a photo that is subject to a higher power’s approval. Sore issue .

    W.B.T.S. (Won’t Beg To Stay)

Hey Al, we are staying at Apache Palms during “auction week”. Wher will you be?? West world??

what happens= do the owners have to buy new every 9 years? Due to a reduced production 2008 to current that would leave a huge market for new coaches soon. Doesn’t effect me in anyway.

Jim and Chris just reminded me that Bella Terra also has a restriction but I have never been asked. If I had been asked I would likely have not responded very well. We have had oysterfest there ever since we outgrew Charlie’s Shady Acres over by mobile.

I would like to hear some opinions from those planning on attending oysterfest if we should draw a line in the sand on this issue, with a request for photos being adequate reason to find a location that wants us. Maybe I am being grumpy and unrealistic, but I cannot ever recall an instance where the age of the coach next to me had any impact on my enjoyment of the RV park.

From the Prevosts I’ve seen so far, most owners have a pride in ownership, regardless of the age.

I can’t imagine attending a rally at a resort/park which has restrictions on the age of the coach when they understand it’s a rally for Prevost owners.

My H is very easy to tell it’s older than 10-years based on the four windshields. I suspect the same to be true for the XL owners.

And Jon, you have too much to be thankful for to be grumpy today 🙂

Tim is correct about the tells, but for the most part only we know. Geo.
