Temperamental power
Had an interesting episode with the coach today. It lost shore power while plugged in here in El Paso, TX. Power on the post was good, the shore power disconnect was on, but no power in the coach. All circuit breakers were on, and nothing tripped. Resetting the coach systems did not help. Ran the generator for a while for AC, and power was good. A couple of resets of the inverter panel may have cleared the issue, or perhaps it self healed–not sure. I got back on shore power and so far running OK. One thing I noticed while nosing around in the front house electrical bay was a relay(?) in the Shore JBox that had a red light on. The relay is labeled RIP, and sits between a RSP and a RCM1 relay. Can anyone tell me if the red light is normal, or an indicator of a malfunction?

probably a contactor going bad in the transfer switch .

Open the box and carefully look at all the wire connections for evidence of loose connections or heat. I lost a contactor (big relay) last summer because one of the wire terminals had worked loose over time and because of the resistance of a loose terminal the connection got hot enough to melt a portion of the contactor resulting in a failure.
All of the transfer switch connections should be tightened periodically because they can loosen over time, but that is not something anyone but a professional who understands the danger should be doing.

I checked and tightened the connections in the three transfer switch boxes. Nothing seemed loose, but in the box labeled shore power disable, I found a burned out electrical component. Couldn’t tell what it was, possibly a capacitor. It connected two 18ga wires, so I’m guessing a control circuit. Everything works on generator power, so will stop by Premium Coach group in Phoenix to see if Chad can help. Thanks for the inputs!

Per, yours may be different but, In my transfer switch box there are two timers that have an limited service life and can prevent shore or generator power from passing into the coach when one fails. They are identical so swap out their position and see if the problem moves from the shore to the generator.

Thought I’d do an update. Premium Coach Group finished this morning. Turned out the Shore power main circuit breaker failed. One of the legs coming in was scorched, and the main timer was fried. At least we are back on the road!
