  • tedeco oil filler cap failure

Posted by Chas on August 7, 2014 at 9:49 pm

So the last trip to East Tennessee Luxury Coach, I asked Jeff about removing the oil filler that is behind the main engine belt as the base was loose and dripping oil all over the engine. He ended up re-epoxying it and we were good.

Yesterday morning left Deer Park WA and drove to Clinton MT. Pulled into the RV park and got the coach park. Started to do a walk around to check on the coach and noticed some oil on the side of the passenger side engine door. Walked around the back and the entire engine doors and bumper were covered in oil 🙁

Opened the door and the CAP had come off. This is the type that has a flip top so you can easily fill your oil without standing on a ladder and using a funnel. Found the cap down below the aux belts. Cleaned up the mess and JB Welded the cap back on.

Next time I am at Jeff’s, I will be replacing with the stock block off plate and do away with the lazy man’s filler. Didn’t like the implementation from the start as it just had bad design written all over it, really don’t like it now.

Got down to just outside Jackson WY today and the JB Weld held, but just one more thing to make me paranoid while driving down the road. First it was the older tires, then the tire pressure in the new tires (whole other story with crappy chinese valve cores not seating properly, the TPMS system I ordered while on the road is working excellent and helping me relax a little, but it’s one more thing to check on every couple of minutes) and now the oil filler. What next? My over the road air shooting flames out the side of the bus?

how did i guess that would catch some attention 😉

tam actually did all the legg work and ordered it with expidited delivery so we had it before we moved again (had two days before we were going).

she got me tire-safeguard, actually a pretty nice setup that i can add more sensors to depending on the size trailer we end up getting. (two or three axle).

oh great, only 5000 more miles to go before the return on my investment starts to payoff!

    🙂

even with the “issues” we have encountered we are still happy with our purchase, even 6 months into our ownership. We have done a good amount of maintenance and work, but we think it will make our new overall experience that much better long term.

Red, trust me, Jeff will be sending me a bill when I get home. Have another “tick list” of things we need to attack aftet this trip.

He will be happy to know the bedroom CruiseAir isn’t one of them (just yet, but we are getting a LO AC on the front). I did some roadside (well RV Park) repairs today, had to fix a small air leak that was driving me crazy. Basically the valve to dump air for the engine belt pullies, was leaking. Jeff will need to redo that “properly”, as well as the air brake valve needs to be done “properly” (or at least looked at). But overall, the coach has been great for the past 2500+ miles and HOPEFULLY will be just as good getting us home from Mesa Verde. Will be leaving here Tuesday morning and heading home to some other business we need to deal with in Georgia.
