Tecma Not Flushing
Good Morning PC
Were in Breckenridge Co on our annual ski trip and the Tecma isn’t flushing this morning.
This has happened to us once before when the younger kids clogged it with excessive amounts of TP.
Here is what it is doing. It will fill with water, here once click pause and then fill with water for the rinse. Not hearing anything beyond the click.
The interesting thing is that the bowl is nearly full at the end of the cycle but within a few minutes its drained down to normal level.
I have talked to the kids this morning and nobody did anything but #1 overnight so I guess it’s possible the macerator just died but Marathon told me last time that they almost never see that happen.
I was close to Marathon in OR when it happened the last time, and observed the tech get it un stuck… so I think I could do it if the wisdom was it might be clogged. It’s going to be difficult to stay here for 4 more days without a fix. I will give Marathon Tech support a call bit later this morning.. But thought someone here might have input.

Sorry Bill, I never had a problem with the Tecma toilet in the 07 Marathon.

Hi Bill
The click is the telling sign, your macerater is jammed.
Something is blocking it, toilet has to come out from what your saying to free it up.

Before I would go to the trouble of pulling a toilet I would get a plunger of the type that can push air or water forcefully down the drain. If it is a blockage a shot of air or water under pressure should break things loose.

Your toilet has 2 electric gears in it. Marathon does not recommend pumping air into your toilet but if you choose to do so open the gravity fill valve on your fresh water tank.
I would not advise you do that.

Bill,
It’s rear discharge, so if you can access the back of the toilet, remove the floor bolts, unhook the wires and water hose (be sure to turn off water at the manifold) and remove the discharge hose. You can then figure out what your problem may be.

I listened to my bride and just went skiing with the kids today. My plan was to pull it tonight and see what was up. About 90% of the times I have tried to fix stuff on the bus, I end up making worse… So I figured I see what the wisdom was here on PC and perhaps bother the kind folks at Marathon tech support. I got a text from my wife around lunch that it was working again… Lif5e is good…
I think I might look into have a spare macerator on board just in case it ever dies… Life with 5 on board (3 females) and no working toilet is a trip buster for sure. Thanks for all the help. Tom and Jon you can move this to wherever you think best!

Try pouring boiling hot water in the bowl and let it sit for a while. This worked on our Headhunter in the old bus a couple of times. I also used a drain clog bladder (look it up on Google) on the Headhunter with success when nothing else would work. I don’t know if it would work on the Tecma but would like to know.

Bill, Our daughter is where you are and when she called yesterday she said it was 0 out ? I know for a fact when it is cold , and I mean really cold stuff just dosent work well . Not sure if this is your issue but I agree go skiing 🙂

Loc has it correct. My issue is freezing. not sure how or where but we had the issue again twice today and both times. Adding a bunch of hot water to the bowl corrected the issue. Techlink is showing water bay is staying around 60. we haven’t been running the bath heat because the kids complained it was too hot in the bunks… So tonight I am going to try to run it with the bath door closed to see if that helps.
No other issues with anything water system. Tonight is our last night and were heading home tomorrow afternoon.

You have Webasto and electric heat in the water bay, check the electric heater it’s thermostat controlled. May need to adjust temperature accordingly.

Bill, if your toilet drain pipe passes from the toilet through an uninsulated area of the coach before it reaches the heated holding tank bay you may have to add a heat tape to the pipe.
It must be very cold where you are.

Were back in St. Louis and the Bus is thawing out. My son and I were able to track the line from the Tecma to the tank and it’s directly above the bay heater which we confirmed was working and keeping the bays around 59 degrees. I think I will pull the toilet and see what I can see from the topside. it does come very close to exterior wall but the crazy thing for me is that it appeared the blockage or freeze point was in the Tecma which is clearly inside the bus. I can’t believe it was ever even close to below zero inside…. We have been in Colorado with temps as low as 25 below with no problems in the past. This year we were about -20 a couple of nights…
My 14 year old son’s idea to solve the problem next year is to take one of the Marathon provided spare hot water lines off the main manifold and plumb the tecma with hot water… it could give the liberty rose petals a run for the money.

Glad it worked. The hot water works on the clog. We do this at home and it works every time (better than a plumbers friend). I didn’t think of hot water because of the cold, but it may have benefits there as well. I would be surprised if you got anywhere near cold enough for that to be the issue, but it could be.
