Tag or Steer Hubs.
Upon our return from a successful trip from Vonore via Santa Fe, (Know your Prevost seminar) , thanks Jon and Tom, yesterday after having our “third” 50 DN removed and repaired (leaky brass fittings), I was checking out rest of coach before heading to California this weekend.
While washing bus last Sunday,I’m noticed most off our curbside tag nut covers were loose to touch. Figuring they stayed there coming home,I wasn’t going to mess with them until after Stewart Stevenson visit yesterday.
Doing my check of hub, noticed two things. Curb tag center cap was oily gooed up. Remember we have 365’s on steer and tag with nut covers and center pop off caps. Removed hub cover cap, and inside had oily dirt and the hub rubber stopper was out. Oil in hub was at level. I, then went around checking rest, all,ok. I went around and pierced rubber plug to make sure pressure hole was open, each hissed a small bit of air, with exception the curbside side tag that blew out rubber stopper. Letting bus sit indoors over last night, today, I’m going to check oil level, any leaking down inside sidewall, and jack tag up to “spin it” for noise or binding
any other suggestions? If it spins free and no noise, no further oil loss, guess we are good to go.
Just keep eye on it
