Tag axle shock mount
Does anyone have a clue if the upper shock mount on a 1999 XLV tag axle is a screw in stud. Marathon Grand Prairie was installing new shocks and found the curbside tag axle upper shock mount was snaped off. To me it looks like a screw in stud, but they said it would have to go to Prevost Ft. Worth and have the whole upper mount cut off and a new one put on. This sounds a bit excessive and dumb to me, but would like to hear from someone who has had their shocks off themselves. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry to read about this problem. I would not be concerned about the repair at all.
In the hands of a truck frame shop and notice the two words… “Truck Frame” this is and easy repair for an
experienced frame repair mechinac, no big deal.

Coincidently, today I have the right side tag wheel off to replace brake caliper slide pins. So I just went out and looked at the shock mounts. It looks like there is a stud, threaded on both ends. One end screws into the chassis, then the shock slides on that stud, then a washer and nut screw onto the outside of the stud holding the shock in place. All I can see behind the shock that makes me think it is a stud is a hex seated up against the frame. Logic: why would there be a hex there if not to put a wrench on? And I didn’t see a weld bead there either. It is easy access once the wheel is removed. Good luck.
