  • Tach and Speedometer not functional

Posted by Mike on July 23, 2015 at 6:05 pm

Just completed my second visit to Detroit Diesel repair facility and for the second time my tach and speedometer come out not functional. First time was in Oregon and the tech’s had connected a computer to my ECM. When completed they noticed that my tach and speedo were erradic and non-functional. They called Prevost Canada and got a fix (resetting CB or something). Once all was working correctly, they provided me with the procedures in case I ever experienced the problem again. Today, I pickup my coach from Tampa DD and my tach was non-functional. Techs said that they had not connected to my ECM but they did replace the speed sensor on my transmission (was leaking). They had no idea how to get the tach working again (I have not been able to find my instructions thT the Oregon DD gave me), so I called JAX Prevost. We went through a few procedures with the DDEC console and reset several CBs, all to no avail. In fact, now my speedometer stop working. JAX is researching the issue, so in the mean time, anyone have any experience with such stuff, i.e., a fix.

    Mike,

Had a friend with trouble today in WI with his “H”, speedometer jumping around and tranny not shifting right. Helped get him in to a shop. I suggested the Speed Sensor and that was the problem. New Speed Sensor and he’s back on the road. No code’s thrown, so if we wouldn’t have suggested the possible problem, might have been a really long and expensive deal.

    Hope this helps.
