Posted by George on September 3, 2020 at 10:43 pm

Searched past threads and there are conflicting views in the 2018 threads for this subject.

wanting to get latest actual usage as several units have evolved wit newer electronics.

Hughes and progressive seem to be the top units , looking for real experiences as to ease of use and reliability.

Very happy with Progressive top of the line unit. Twice or three times its drop the connection due to low voltage … which is what its supposed to do.

This is the one I Installed, Nice little remote tells you the volts-amps and if any errors. Easy to install and forget about it

    Art:

That’s the one I have but didn’t get the remote. Did you purchase the remote afterwards or with your original purchase?

I have both. Both are plug in. I use the Progressive most of the time because of it’s size. If it is hot weather and the initial voltage check is low I switch to the Hughes.

I was referring to the remote on the Progressive unit. Did you by it as a option?

It came with the Remote and the communication cable. I have the surge protector next to ATS box and the remote monitor mounted in wet bay, so when I plug in coach I can see it. Hughes also makes a autoformer with a surge protector built in. I have a old Hughs Autoformer for low voltage but down the road I will trade mine in for newer model. But I will keep the progressive.

I have this Hughes unit (https://hughesautoformers.com/product/pwd50-epo/), but I’m a total newbie, so take my comments for what they’re worth. I liked the concept of replacing the expired surge module, when needed, and that it monitors the coach’s neutral, as well. The one thing I will say is that it trips INSTANTLY if you exceed your 50A on either leg, and, unlike a voltage shut off, it doesn’t auto-restart. I had to reset the unit via the phone app. I’ve seen others comment on this, elsewhere, as well. I didn’t have it happen when away from the coach, but that wouldn’t have been ideal. I’m guessing it happened at an A/C start up, but didn’t spend time to diagnose. Again, being a newbie, the whole power management thing is still on my learning curve, but that was my real world experience with my initial use of the device.

In the long term, I’ll probably configure things so that it resides inside my electrical bay and not have to worry about it sitting outside at the pole.

Raydameon says progressive normally and Hughes when hot

Why the difference in which to use?

I use the Hughes auto booster it weighs 35lbs. In Low voltage, or potentially low voltage situations are use the booster
