Super Heavy Bay Doors ?
The front two Bay doors on My Liberty have the Matching Zip Dee Chairs stored in Pockets inside of the door. Makes them Super Heavy. Need Mighty Mouse to Help Open them ! So Heavy that I dread getting in them. I have seen other coach’s of the same era that the storage has been moved to the rear of the Slide out. Which would be better , But Hate to give up all that storage space. I noticed that IBP has different Weight Gas Cylinder deals up to 250 # ? Does anyone have the chair storage inside of the Bay Doors ? And has anyone tried the heavier Cylinders with any Success ?

On my last two coaches the lift cylinders were all the same but the choice of the hole in the door arm gave more mechanical advantage to the bay doors with the chairs in them. I cannot remember if my first coach had two different mounting holes to select from.
If the lift cylinders are working the doors with the extra weight, but the use of the correct holes should lift easily. I do not remember the cylinder lifting force.

We have heavier duty gas springs on our generator door due to the extra weight of the insulation on the inside of the door. They work great.

As Jon said…the XL should have alternate mntg. holes. Geo.

If you decide to unhook the gas cylinders to move the pivot point to another hole or install a more powerful cylinder, be VERY, VERY CAREFUL. If the cylinders are not fully extended and you pull the bolt out of the hole, the end of the shaft will explode into your face. Very dangerous if not done correctly. Make sure the bay door is raised fully to the top of its travel before you pull the bolt out.

Be sure and block the bay door up with a 2×4 or something like that.

Prevost sells regular and high capacity gas struts. The regular right now are on sale for $20 each. The high capacity are $67 each? These can be used with two hi capacity on a door for a very heavily loaded door or one of each for a more balanced door. Remember, too much lift is more of a pain than not enough. I have mounted a step platform on the front curb side bay door and used one and one with just about correct pull down stress. Using a bar clamp as in an Irwin 36″ from Lowes works well to control length of strut while installing. Be careful. -

Thanks for the Tips , Good safety Info !My Cylinders must be wore completely out ! They provide no help lifting or holding whatsoever. And the Bay Doors Hang Cock eyed when put in the locked position. Very unsightly Compared to the way the other Bay doors look in the Upright position. Might need 2 on each door if thats possible ? I will ask Mr Jeff what He thinks about it ?
