Suggestions on how to purchase R-22?
Hello from Bar Harbor, Maine
We continue on our first trip in this new to us bus and while reading about Cruise Air units needing freon periodically, can anyone tell me how you go about purchasing R-22 to have on hand for the future, especially in consideration of the fact it will soon be no longer available… THANK YOU, Jeff…

You can take a test on line and get a certificate than buy it at any appliance parts store. Or you can enjoy your coach, not waste space with it and run the hell out of your Cruiseairs for years and years before they need Freon.
But you do need a vacuum with a gentle brush attachment to keep the filters clean. At least annually.

There is a guy I know that says to:
A) buy a 30 pounder locally from a going out of business HVAC owner advertising on craigslist. Meet them in a golds gym parking lot at around noon. Make sure it’s still sealed. Look around to see if the “Freon police” have the place staked out 🙂 If not? giv’em the cash, like say $200.
or
B) buy it off Ebay – tell the seller your a reseller(but it will cost more). -
I just bought from dealer on Amazon, they only require the license or assurance
😉 that you are going to have a licensed service do the work.
I claimed my service allowed me to provide the Freon, to save money.

30 lbs for $390

I know you guys are being helpful, but since the total amount in a Cruiseair is less than 2# can anyone justify dragging a 30# bottle around, or even wasting space in a garage worth it.
In almost 29 years of Cruiseair ownership on three coaches I have yet to recharge one, with most of the issues being start or run capacitors.

Mine appear to be (or appear to have been when removed for rebuild) leak free since new in 1984. I bought a bottle for charging after rebuilds, as well as charging the systems on my home. And, well – he asked!

Jeff I buy mine (R22) off craigslist around Austin but did a check on Houston’s site and there is plenty around from $250 t0 $300 bucks a bottle. If on the road just check where you are. Make sure it’s sealed if you buy.
