  • Sudden loss of shore power.

Posted by Bill on February 28, 2026 at 6:43 pm

Out of the blue today our message center announced, “Shore power reverse polarization” and everything shut down. 120 on 1 leg 60-80 on the other. Runs fine on the generator. Sounds like something has become loss, burnt or shorted. The neutral and ground read continuity intermittently. All is good from breaker to plug and plugging the 50 amp to 30 amp to 20-amp adapter, plugging that into a standard 20-amp plug causes the GFI to trip. I haven’t tried in a standard 20 amp plug as I would have to move the coach. I can’t find where the incoming cord connects to the coach (a 50-amp circuit breaker inside the coach. The power cord is on a reel, so it disappears into the wet bay somewhere. I see where shore power connected to the generator transfer switch and all “appears” good there.

If anyone has a late 90’s -2000 Country Coach, I would appreciate any thought and troubleshooting steps. I replaced the shore plug head thinking the problem might be there, but it did not change anything.

You can call if you think you can help. We are in NJ at this time.

So, I actually did see that I have 2 50 amp breakers in the bedroom 120 V dist. panel. Just thought there should be something out there before the transfer switch. So, what do I need to look for at the transfer switch? I have to assume that’s the direct connection from the power plug.

Thanks for the response. I’m not a POG member so that’s out. Luckily, I found a Mobile RV guy who knew his stuff. I am up and running after he replace a neutral wire in the junction box coming out of thr power reel. The most inaccessible box location and yet he was able to get it out a tad, cut and strip a bit of wire and get it all back in the box. That part he had to do with 1 hand. I was lucky to find him and will post his info on the site!
