Jack, I already got crossways with Prevost about that and when I got Bill Jensen involved he approved the hoses get switched. There was an engineering error on the bill of materials and for years Prevost has been putting the cold hoses on the hot side and the more expensive hot hoses on the cold side.

I am guessing the engineering revision to the bill of materials has been made by now. At least two of our members were involved in the wrong hose placement, one had it corrected before he left Nashville, the other will have Prevost correct the problem at Prevost’s expense.

Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s been corrected or at least wasn’t when I had my CAC replaced in March. I called them ( Mira Loma) well in advance with all the part numbers from your previous post on the topic… everything sounded fine until i got there and they looked at me like I had two heads… They told me that colors don’t mean anything and the Blue hoses are rated for the operating temps.. blah blah… I tried to push the issue and insistend on the part numbers you referenced and they called me while we were at dinner and said they weren’t long enough…. so we ended up with Blue on both sides… if you think this is something I should get corrected and can help with that process I would appreciate it.

First, they are full of shit. The colors mean everything. And if they have not made the engineering change shame on Prevost and especially their engineering.

Anyone that has gotten a detailed invoice for CAC replacement which includes replacement of the 5 hose sections can see proof they are wrong. The blue hoses that they were (are) putting on the hot side, from the turbo to the CAC are the cheapest hose sections. The orange or red hoses they were (are) putting on the cold side in three places are extremely expensive. It makes no sense whatsoever for Prevost to use red hoses on the cold side if the blue hoses are acceptable for the hot side.

But if anyone looks further the entire hose indistry uses the colors on the air intake hoses to denote high temperature limits (red) and low temperature application (blue.)

For what it is worth the intake air directly from the turbo on my coach has been seen as high as 550 degrees F, and the air from the CAC is a little more than 200 degrees F.

Bill, we pay Prevost serious money per hour expecting to get the best advice and service. It is disappointing when we run into situations where the advice is “that is how we have always done it.”

For what it’s worth, MCI uses all red hoses, except for the intake from the air cleaner.

Exactly Bryan. The air cleaner hose is exposed to ambient temperatures so that is completely understandable. But once the intake air passes through the turbo it is hot. Less hot at the intake manifold, but where I come from 200 degrees is still hot.

I monitor my turbo outlet and intake temperatures using my
Silverleaf. On a hot day, 95 degrees or so, the turbo outlet temps (the hot
side) will be over 400 degrees, even on
moderate hill and the intake temp will be about 160 degrees. Jon is correct, the folks at the Prevost
dealer are wrong, the boot colors do matter. I think he was trying to say they were wrong, he wasn’t all that clear.

I have put red hoses on all of my points from the turbocharger to the intake manifold,they are just superior, I will post the vendor and part number tomorrow.

I checked the hoses that I have as spares and they are Flexfab part # FLX7727-0001 they measure 4″ Diameter X 8″ in length,I purchased them from my local Truck Pro parts warehouse.
