  • Steps for used coach purchase

Posted by Robert on August 25, 2013 at 2:36 pm

Hi everyone…New member and returning Prevost owner (almost)!! It has been great lurking and better to be a part of the “In crowd”! I have owned two Marathon H3-45 coaches. A used 2000 non slide and a new 2006 double slide. We are changing our life plans and have decided to purchase a used H3 of the 2006/2007 or 2008 vintage. As I research the mutitude of available coaches it can be difficult to ACCURATELY determine market value. Same Prevost model year has MANY different price points depending on the converter/options? Also I wonder what the GROUP MIND THINKS about the price/market place? Has the market bottomed as the real estate market has??I am using different supplements to REGAIN the many lost memories of coach ownership! As I remember ,I will try to add some helpful information. For now, I hope to tap the group genius. Thanks for having me…I am reminded of Groucho’s remark about joining groups…”I would never belong to ANY group that would have me as a MEMBER”!! 🙂

I believe there are so many factors that influence the price of a coach that it is only likely that with some internet searching you can only find a spread and for a specific model year and converter, basically a coach with equal features (like an H3, model year 2006, 2 slides) the spread can be a couple hundred thousand dollars.

Having poked around the internet looking at coaches for quite a few years I can only conclude the prices asked are going to vary significantly from a dealer who wants some room to negotiate and allow what looks like a fair value for a trade in to an owner who needs to move a coach quickly. Same coach, two widely varying situations. The dealer, especially if the dealer is the converter is likely to add substantial value in the form of new tires, batteries a full service, a warranty, and training. A private seller is going to exchange the keys for money and wish you well.

Influencing the pricing is the coach history, its decor, and if it is a distress sale such as a repo, or if it is one with perfect records, and excellent colors and condition.

What is critical is for you to get a sense of the market and buy accordingly.
