Steering Link/Compartment Flex Wall
The flexible wall/boot that seals the steering compartment from the outside elements has fallen apart. I need a replacement? Suggestions on where to buy one, or better yet, how to and what to use to do it myself are greatly appreciated.

Wow. We have never ever seen one of those “boots” fail.
Obviously I am just kidding. Almost everyone has had issues with and had to repair or replace that boot. You can probably do just as good a job by getting an old truck tire inner tube and cutting and fabricating your own. Some contact adhesive or metal strips and pop rivets are all you need to make your own.

Went down this road five years ago.
You can order part number 160931 from Prevost Parts, it is about a hundred dollars. I did, but didn’t use it for anything but a pattern. Went to Menards, bought a large roll of rubber, maybe five feet wide and a bunch of feet long for a hundred bucks. It was the same thickness and pliableness as the oem part. Made about four more of them, but have enough material to make ten more. They are cone shaped. Sowed the cone together with a sowing awl. Then I couldn’t get the steering arm disconnected to install the boot, so I cut out some more, but didn’t sow them. These are to be sewn after being wrapped over the steering link, which is what I did.

I think I’ll make my own out of an inner tube.
I hope it isn’t to big a PIA getting the steering link loose.

Don’t disturb the steering link, but do make a joint in the “cone” and either sew, bond or rivet the rubber together after it is over the link.

Get the large piece of rubber and make your own. You will just wrap it around and fasten it to the steering link with the hose clamp and the wall with the screws. A generous fold over is all you need, not much of anything gets in through it. It is necessary secondarily to keep out rodents.
TIP: Make sure it is loose enough to accomodate full travle of the link.
