  • Squeak on rough roads

Posted by AL on May 11, 2012 at 7:00 pm

After getting back from New Orleans a off again—on again noise was finally found by no other then the co-owner of our bus. Her ownership is all parts inside unless in need of repair. Extremly rare on Marathon.

Spotting rough roads ahead Mary Ellen then searched and tracked down this squeak to be inside pillar # 3 on the curb side.

Got ahold of Leon at Marathon Coach in Coburg ….getting the low down on how the pillar was assembled. Found the problem on a support strap had worked loose. Making a shim to ease stress on the wall support solved the problem.

Mary Ellen has now informed me of a big time pay back is due, as without her careful tracking skills, I would of wasted my time in the wrong place. My guess was the microwave area.

Good day at the bus barn.

    From a recent post………..

hmmm… glue in the Marathon shop might be a problem as Marathons are built tough with nuts, bolts and screws.

I guess we can add shims to that list. Just Sayin…….

Handling the rough roads is easy, finding dump truck size pot holes to actually excercise Marathon suspension is another task.

Getting Marathons assembly of the pillar took over a hour to down load all of the information. Tools and only NAPA tools were used to work on the area laid out on the galley table, latex gloves, back lighting, A/C adjusted to proper room temp. soft music played. Monitors were mounted overhead as Marathon factory personal gathered. Video recording the procedure for the Marathon owners around the world.

If legal releases are obtained it’s just possible 3 Amigo’s rally attentees would be able to get an invitation only black tie dinner with the showing of this historic adjustment.

We were concerned with trama but was avoided when new stainless screws and washers were used on the reassembly.

News releases had been incorrectly quoted as a repair. Retraction corrected the above as a adjustment.

All of the above? Or else the squeaking caused some brain trauma?

Herm Your missing the hints so I’ll spell it out as a good friend should. First, your coach is trying to tell you something. With one loose pillar will come another. Than the next thing you know the walls will fall in when you are driving! Its time to trade quick! Second What Mary Ellen is trying to tell you by you owe her big time is she wants you to buy her a new coach for mothers day! She told me at Heritage that she wanted a Liberty. So just bite the bullet, put on the big boy pants and buy your lady a Liberty. You’ll make us all proud. Just trying to help! Rick

Having put rope inside all of my window troughs in order to stop the windows from rattling at 70 mph and this last trip actually spraying some WD-40 on my wooden floor that was squeaking (by the way, this works) it is refreshing to see that even “high dollar conversions” will avail themselves of the occassional shim or quick fix rememdy to road mysteries.

I suspect the pain of having to admit his coach had a flaw was as bad as passing a kidney stone.

I’am a little suspect…no I’am a lot suspect of these Liberty guy’s as they have a reputation of liking to spend other peoples money…OPM.

After our little road trip to Texas not a peep of any noise in area where the adjustment took place. Even the wonder dog slept most of the time as the inside of the bus was so quiet you could hear the XM radio change stations.
