spares to carry
We’re enroute from Calgary to “Chicago”. And mylady of the road screwed me last night north of Minot. She popped one of those black quarter inch air lines in the steering compartment. The only affect to her was to lower the left side. So we limped into a truckstop, all the while the compressor was keeping our gauges above 100psi. Didn’t solicit any help. Found the leak right away (Stevie Wonder would have found it). Fortunately the line split near the end of its run by the fitting, so it was a “snip and redo fix”. My dingy never breaks, I’m thinking of moving that camera to the steering compartment.
That brings me to the subject of this post.
I would like to know what folks carry in the way of spares to be prepared for stuff like the above (already did the search on “spares”). So following is my list. Would appreciate others adding their items that have not already been listed to minimize redundancy. We can skip the spare television sets and air conditioners we all carry. I appreciate that our skill levels vary, but for me, the forum benefit would be great.

Forget all that stuff , just carry a wallet full of money it’s a lot less weight , just kidding but still good to carry!!!!

I never will carry an air bag, tire, or brake chamber. I stopped carrying Norgren’s and generally anything I need to get under the coach to replace. After so many years I realized my greatest cure for road side issues was to prevent them in the first place.
But I do carry tools, various fasteners, velcro, hose clamps, pipe plugs (to plug off a leaky brake chamber) and a lot of light bulbs. I have a spare “Watchdog” which is the brains for the generator start system, plus a few small spares of parts like a generator fuel pump.
I have a selection of relays, circuit breakers and terminals for minor electrical glitches.
The most critical thing to carry is as others said, money, credit cards and contact information for Prevost, Detroit, Allison, etc. I also have been anal to the extreme in thinking through “what if” scenarios and I have a plan for being able to work around just about any situation from a failed AC to a failed water pump. I cannot deal with the big stuff like a broken engine or transmission but those failures are rare and when they do quit that is when you use the credit card.
