My foam material in my generator sound box is deteriorating. Just touching it causes it to fall apart. It the material something that is readily available or do I have go go through a converter?

There are many good options for replacing deteriorating sound deadener. A number of owners have done such a project. An internet search will likely show a lot of options. Keep in mind you not only want the sound deadening, you also need flamability rating also.

Several use the acustic ceiling tile from them. Fire retardant and sound deadning. FWIW
