  • Solution for Strapping My Car in Trailer

Posted by Davy on July 4, 2012 at 11:18 am

I have had trouble strapping down vehicles in trailers from the very first time I tried it. It does not matter how tight I strap it down they would always dance sideways on me. Last year I even broke good ratchet straps because I had them so tight. The little green maching I am towing now is only 2400 lbs and I still could not keep it from moving.

I have asked and searched every where for a solution. A user in an RV forum posted a link to THESE folks and I found my answer there. I have no financial interest at all in this company. I had never even heard of them until about 30 days ago.

I thought some of you might be interested although it may be old hat to most of you.

This is a picture from their website. I ordered four of these. A regular wheel strap would not work because of the low clearance on the care but these are perfect.

I installed the etrack in the trailer

We pulled it in and strapped it down…

The idlers move freely in every direction.

I have pulled the trailer about 590 miles with the car secured with these and as far as I can see the car has not moved an inch. I think I have finally found the solution for strapping down the car.

    Now that is pretty cool.

I have had the same problem, finally figured out a way to do it where it works for me. I will pass it on. I cross the straps, I do not just run them straight to the tie down point. Criss crossing them seems to hold it down to a min. on most roads and it has so far worked for us. One other thing I do is frequently check the tension of the straps, but I am sure you do that too.

Out of curiosity and if you don’t mind, what is the cost of the units? Uh duh? You posted a link I am sorry, I will check ’em out.

I tried crossing the staps and I just could not get it secure enough.

I started out with my 95 Cheap Jeep. It was so old and beat up that I worried more about damaging the trailer than it. A few scratches might have been an improvement.

When the jeep laid down I bought a nice 2000 Denali and it worried me crazy. I crossed the straps built jigs to hold the wheels in place and it still danced on me.

I figured this little Scion would be a cinch but nothing stopped it until these.

The ones with the idlers are the most expensive. There were about $36 each plus the cost of the etrack and the bolts to mount it. They are pretty competitive on pricing for etrack too. I bought it from them with shipping for less than I could buy it locally when I was in the Tulsa area.

From the photo’s you provided and the information on the website, it appears it is going to be the cat’s meow.

I have been hauling my drag racing cars on a flatdeck open trailer for years using the ratchet straps from http://www.summitracing.com. They are rated at 5,000 lbs, under $100 for a set, that includes 4 ratchet straps and 2 axle straps. Never had a problem with the car moving.
