My Prevost coach has a Thetford Tecma macerating toilet. Whenever you flush it, the lights in the whole house go out for a second. A lot of times, the brownout is long enough to confuse some of the electrical systems, for example, the water pump may go off.

I wonder if this is a flaw in the unit I have (maybe it has a capacitor that isn’t doing its job?) or if it’s to be expected due to the heavy current draw when that macerating / suction pump turns on — in which case — do you think installing a soft start for the toilet would be a good idea?

Mine has been in for over 7 years and it must not pull much because nothing happens except the water pump comes on. Maybe the 12v wire is way undersized when I installed it I needed a power wire so I went directly to power source next to batteries where all the big relays are connected with the OEM wire on toilet 10gauge wire with 40 amp fuse

That’s helpful! I’m glad it’s working for you; there must be something wrong with my setup that it pulls too much power.

You may have a voltage problem. Check the voltage at the toilet when flushing.
