Sofa replace or recover?
The interior of our new to us coach is in pretty good shape but the sofa does show some wear. We’d like to get it recovered or replaced. The sofa has a jacknife bed with an angled flange,with storage underneath both parts. Marathon was quoting between $6000 and $7000 to recover, an independent repair shop quoted around $4500, a RV furniture place estimated about $3000 for a new (Villa) couch. The independent shop said the sofa would have to be removed through the windshield.
Any advice on how to proceed? Can the couch be disassembled and the parts moved through the door or is the windshield the only option? Where would one shop for a replacement? I cannot find this particular style online. The jacknife mechanism would also have to be repaired or replaced.

I had two custom sofas reupholstered with an elaborate pleated design in all leather. It took 8 hides.
I originally contemplated new but the equipment beneath both sofas ruled out the use of any standard designs so I opted for the reupholstering. I was able to disassemble both and take the pieces out through the door on a 97 XL. But don’t fear windshield removal. It is common to do this and easy. Takes about 10 minutes to remove and about 20 to 30 to reinstall the glass. Anyone can do it.

I took the Villa sofa out the 2000 CC I had by taking it apart and out the front door, but as Jon pointed out, removing the windshield is not a big deal.
Last year I had a local upholstery shop do our couch, chair and foot rest. We picked out fabric and hides from a local fabric dealer and saved a pile of money. They did a great job, so you don’t have to break the bank, use your local resources if able.

I had to replace a refridgerator recently .. everyone said remove the windshield and take it out that way ..
OMG remove the windshield? Seriously?
Turns out its simple. It took less time (and far less agony) to remove and replace the windshield than to deal with the fridge.

Looks like recovering it locally is the way to go. Is there a write up on how to remove and replace the windshield?

Need to include the model in the signature line. The H3 might have a different procedure than the XL.

Got the jack knife part of the sofa disassembled and out the door. The corner element looks like it is one piece and won’t fit through the door. We’ll either upholster it in the bus or remove it through the windshield. I know, not a big deal, but the rainy season is about to start here and I do not have an undercover storage place for the coach yet. I was surprised to find four seat belts hidden away inside the couch.
The local upholsterers don’t seem too excited about the project. Visited four times, sent pictures, computed the required amount of fabric since their computer program estimated 30 yds, met with the actual upholsterer, still no actionable quote. I guess they have more work than they can handle. The RV interior shop 100mi away has been working on a quote to recover or replace for a few days. When I called they are still working on it.
My concern is that if it is that hard to get them to accept my money, I can only guess how hard it will be for me to get them to finish the job.

Anyone have any experience with the “Majestic Air” matress in the new Flexsteel sofa beds? It isn’t the big “moon bounce” air mattress, but a conventional looking coil base with the top third that inflates.
Our ’92 doesn’t have slide-outs (we actually didn’t want any) and has two jacknife sofas that are very uncomfortable to sleep on. We often bring another couple with us and would like to convert to a real queen sleeper sofa for max comfort. I would love input on a Queen sleeper that folks find max comfortable while sitting and sleeping.

Make sure you have enough room for a true sofa bed. We looked at them and did not think they’d fit in a coach without slides. They are supposed to be more comfortable. Another option might be to use one of the gel foam pads when sleeping.
We decided to upholster our jacknife couch. We should get the last piece (the jacknife part) tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
It has been one of the more frustrating upgrades. I did manage to get the large corner piece out through the door after removing trim on both sides. It took 12 weeks for the upholsterer to get it done the first time. Then it had to be redone because the upholsterer did not test the couch in the sitting position. There was a 2 inch gap between the backrest and seating cushions.
On the bright side I did have plenty of time to replace the worn roller bearing slides for both couch drawers and clean the area really well with the couch removed.

Understand what you mean with the room. Downside is we would have to remove the love seat on the other side and replace with the Sweedish chairs with the heavy ring bases. I need to replace the original carpet with hardwood so will do the couch at the same time.
Funny thing is our friends don’t mind the “Dick Van Dyke Show” style twin beds, it is just that I would rather let them have the bedroom and sleep up front. I like to get up early and get breakfast going and with guests I always feel trapped in the bedroom. I think it would be really cool if there were a mod that gave you a door with a ladder out of the bedroom. Anyone out there invented one?
