So While Motoring
down the road, ran the fuel down to a 1/4 tank while running the genset and of course it quit …as designed….now, what’s the trick to getting it bled of air ( I guess) and restarted….it’s a power tech 17.5 powered by a mighty Isuzu….

When mine has run out I first fill the Racor filter that is the primary filter, (I don’t worry about the spin on filter) then push the start button and when it starts running I will open the bleed valve on my injector pump and this helps bleed off all the air.
I have a Kubota on my generator but I am sure yours has a bleed valve on it some where.
If you only have the spin on canister filter try this without doing anything to it unless it is screwed on upright and you can take it off to fill it. Mine is mounted sideways so if I take it off to fill it by the time I get back on I have lost about half the fuel.

will try filling the filter…..I haven’t looked the engine over closely to see if there is a petcock on the low side , dark out now…..will investigate tomorrow…thanks

On my previous Kubota powered generator there was a round knob that I would open while cranking. I think it allowed the unrestricted flow of fuel into the fuel lines to the injectors. When the engine fired I just closed the valve.
To avoid cranking I also used jumpers to power the fuel pump and when it is not delivering fuel it has a high frequency sound to it, but as fuel is pumping through the system that frequency goes down until it is just a slow clicking indicating the fuel system has pressure.

I’ve run mine out several times…It’s possible it will start, after you fill your tank, IF you didn’t repeatedly try to crank and run it after it ran out the first time.
But, if that doesn’t work, what I’ve done is to simply use a wrench to slightly loosen an injector line while the gen motor is turned over. It should bubble a bit as it expells the air and start up….it might stumble a bit, but it will settle down and run smoothly in short order.

I just try not to run the generator once my tank gets to the 1/4 mark…cause, sure as shootin’, it will run out!!!
People that know what they’re doing, might dispute my method…but it works for me.

My Kohler generator has a momentary primer switch on it which basically just powers the fuel pump. I replaced the switch with a standard 12V on/off switch so when I change fuel filters or run the fuel tank below 1/4 full, I can let it run for a minute or two to re-prime the lines. The fuel pump sound changes when it is ready.
