  • SMX II Control of Roof Airs?

Posted by Wilton on November 15, 2013 at 5:31 pm

From what I remember, Marathon has historically used SMX controlls for their roof air units. Those controls are more commonly used to control CruisAir units instead. Does anyone know if SMX II controls can easily be adapted to work with Dometic roof air units?

I’m trying to figure out how to get a home automation system (non Crestron or AMX) to control the units and know there is an interface that works with SMX II controls, but I have only seem Marathon use the SMX controls with roof airs and don’t know if they had to do a lot of custom work to make that happen?

My coach has three SMXii panels which control four roof top airs in both heating and/or cooling mode, the webasto and/or the 120V electric cadet heaters so the answer to your question is yes. On cold nights the SMX modules are programmed to only allow the RTUs to provide heat down to a exterior temperature of 42 degrees at which point you must use either webasto or base board heat.

I found out that it was AAP.com that modified the roof airs to work with SMX controlls. Then Marathon further modified the system to include control for other heating systems and at one point they switched to SMXir units and wired in an IR transmitter so that their home automation system could control the units.
