Slides
Posted by Loc on May 27, 2018 at 11:24 amI am sure this has been covered numerous times, but I was not able to find any answer using the search function (probably operator error or a short between the seat and keyboard). I have a double slide coach with Prevost slides. I am interested in any experiences with Valid slides.
Is there any consensus on Valid vs Prevost slides?
Is there any history of greater problems with Valid slides vs the factory Prevost slide?
When did Marathon start using Valid slides?
Is there a difference in the time frame by type of Prevost (XLII vs H3)?
While I know (from experience) Prevost doesn’t like to work on slides because of the finish that each converter puts on the walls around the slides, will Prevost work on Valid slides?

Here’s what I’ve seen:
Prevost built slides but limited to two slides, although I heard rumors they may come out with a four slide option;
Marathon can use Valid slides and maybe other converters may use the Valid slide on occasion. I’ve seen Marathon put up to three slides, but I believe they could put four slides in if you wanted.
And, I’ve seen older Featherlite buses which used HWH slides.
There may be more, but I think that covers it.

Prevost has triple and quad slides from the factory and have for several years
Valid makes slides as well, then over the years like converters some come and go…
Featherlite has their slide as well over the years as well as use Prevost slides

When we ordered our coach, I wanted ONLY Prevost slides. That way, there is no question to who is responsible for adjustments if needed and I can have everything done at a Prevost service center.
Liberty is now offering the choice of a ‘flat floor’ slide in the salon and I’m assuming it’s a Prevost slide. Personally, I like slides that only go ‘in and out’, no pivoting.
Safe travels,

MM,
It’s nice to see you support your converter but you need to get a couple things right. Frank only orders Prevost slides so that was your only option.
A big mis understanding is the 1st place your going if you have certain slide issues is your converter because Prevost doesnt know how to take your wall apart.
Valid slides on the other hand can be serviced at Marathon for many things, I prefer Prevost slides also but I know no one complaining about Valid and there slide depth’s are deeper on curbside for H’s than Prevost slides and have a flat floor.
In my X I don’t have to worry about a choice, with a rear superslide and a 12 inch sliding bed it’s almost like having 3 slides.
I more thing Buddy, Liberty isn’t offering shit, Prevost is offering a curbside salon flat floor slide that all converters could purchase.

Thanks I was wondering, A friend is buying a 06 XL11 Legacy Coach with 2 slides.

Hey Bernie,
Yes, I’m aware that Liberty orders the slides from Prevost. And, I know any converter can order the flat floor slide. I was just mentioning that Liberty is offering them now.
And, I’m aware that Prevost will not try to disassemble the converter installed wall. As you know, not all adjustments are behind the wall.
We had a popping noise occasionally when the driver’s side front slide would close. Prevost Nashville adjusted the slide from inside the bay. The tech showed me the Prevost slide mechanism and it was very robust.
Safe travels, I know that you are probably getting anxious for the new Marathon!

I just saw an Emerald coach XL3 floor-plan that offered the SUPERSLIDE in the bedroom.
Wow, that is a nice large slide. This particular floor-plan had a half bath in the bedroom with the full ‘split’ bath in the hallway.
So Bernie, I see what you are talking about with your SUPERSLIDE in the bedroom.
What I’m not understanding is the ‘sliding bed’? Does it tilt up so that you can read in bed? If not, what’s the sliding part for?
Safe travels…

Yes it slides up so you can read if you want. It moves up like a hospital bed for a better word and adds 12 inches to the pathway.
I know which bus your talking about, they screwed up by not changing the window pattern when they ordered the shell to put that floorplan in. No CS bedroom window except in the shithouse and it looks like an appendage sticking out in the middle of the bedroom. I think flipping the bed and closet in the slide opens up the bus better.
Our half bath is in the rear closet.

Loc,
I’ll let the slide guys answer this, but from what I’ve heard from the maintenance guys is Valid has very few problems.

i believe Marathon H’s after the 2003 conversion year slides were built by Prevost. Up to that time they were HWH. As you know from your coach, XLII s had Prevost slides. Marathon XLIIs with three and four slides like 1170, 1174 to name a few were Valid. Marathon H’s with three slides, that’s with two “front” slides are by Valid.

Loc,
I have a 2007 Marathon H with two Valid slides. We have had the coach 6 plus years now… put over 100k on it been to all 49 states on an extended trip with the family where everything got pushed to the limit. Been to Colorado on 3 ski trips -20 and not some much as a lick of trouble with the valid slides. If that all changes tomorrow… I’m blaming you! 🙂
Not sure which Marathon shop I was at but I do recall a tech telling be the valid slides are less problematic than Prevost… but that is just one guys opinion I guess and I don’t want to start any trouble. But for my two cents worth I think your fine with a valid slide…
Good luck on the search

Thanks Jim, Chris and Fogsrv for the replies and the VALID-ation. Sorry, I just had to SLIDE that one into the conversation. I have talked to a number of Marathon owners and most, if not all, have had good things to say about the Vaild slides.
My bride is convinced I am losing it. Just when I get most everything replaced or buttoned up on my existing bus I start thinking about starting the whole process over again. I have an offer out on on 08 H, but we will see if they hit the bid. I still have a long way to go to get to the ownership resume of Trukster or the cattle rancher of bus ownership (largest herd of past buses I know) – Bob01.

We sure miss Bob O, I think the count was around 16. I for one am thrilled that Loc Nest is sniffing out a new bus, I’m sure it will need new batteries. Keep us posted, it’s usually time to trade like you said, just when you get it right.
An 08, now that is a step up for sure..

Bob-00 here:-) Debi typing because we know how fat his fingers are
He said to tell you that you were close but the count is actually well over 20 coaches. He’s also glad to see that Loc is opening up those purse strings and possibly getting a new ride.
Miss you all,
Bob and Debi too

Hi Debi, how are you doing?
Glad to see Loc is loosening up the purse strings. It all helps the economy.
Last time I saw Bob he did not have a coach, but he was at the show looking. He needs to help the economy also.
