Slides won’t retract
Posted by Dean on May 10, 2015 at 8:44 pm
Trying to leave and neither slide will come in. Troubleshooting code indicates that the air seal will not deflate completely however when I tried the front slide I could hear the air deflating from the seal. According to the Marathon manual I am to check the breakers in the slide out control compartment, which I did and they are ok. Next I am to check the fuse in the front service compartment which I can’t find. Since neither one of them will come in I hoping it’s something simple. Any help? One thing I did notice is that on the slide out control boxes located in the bay, there is a red light blinking on each one that says communication. I’m thinking that that may indicate my issue but don’t know what to do about it.Archived replied 11 years, 3 months ago 8 Members · 12 Replies -

several months ago and if you research the board under the emergency heading, you will find a string of posts about this matter. As this is a sensitive issue which could damage the coach or your body, I will refrain from saying anything more. I said enough in the original postings. Regarding the deflation issue, probably, to the right of the panel shown in your photo, you should find an air gauge with a switch which allows you to manually deflate the seals for the front and rear slides. You deflate them both at the same time. No option to choose one or the other. You must do this before you attempt to move the slide. Regarding the red communication lights, they are simply telling you that the system is communicating. It is not an error light.
Good luck!

Interesting both slides will not move. One thing came to mind after reading post.
Are you level ?
Is by chance the level low switch turned to one of the 3 adjustment positions ?

Al,
No I’m not level. I’m backed in my driveway so the nose is down quite a bit. I tried to bring the rear slide in before turning off the level low as the front slide is the only one that won’t operate when the level low system is being used. After turning it off I tried the front slide to no avail. -
Use the level low to air up / adjust until your level enough so sensors clear for operation of slide.

I was as level as I can get it in my driveway when I tried to pull the bedroom slide in. You have to disengage level low for the front slide to operate. I now have the front slide in manually and I’m working on the bedroom slide. I will still have to manually engage the pins and hope the seal will reinflate when I’m done.

Dean,
I am not going to suggest I understand your slide which might be the same generation as mine. I would strongly urge you to contact Prevost and they will walk you through the emergency slide retraction proceedure for your specific version.
Having said that my coach has a manual seal deflation valve that I turn 90 degrees and that deflates the seals (both). I also have two valves that control the front and rear pin retraction. I turn them When the slides are out the pins should already be retracted, but I turn the valves to insure they are not going to engage. Then and only after I am assured the seals are deflated and the pins are retracted do I use the pendant to manually move the slides in (or out)
Having said that you should only move the slides with the coach in the road or driving position.
This is a good place to get advice, except you have to understand the potential for very expensive damage is so great when manually moving slides nothing said on here should be done without talking to Prevost.

Well, well, well. As it often is with things like this, in the end it boils down to something stupid I’ve done. Yesterday afternoon in preperation for the trip I drained the moisture from the air tank in the electrical bay (under drivers seat). While doing this I shut the yellow air valve thinking that this may keep air from entering the tank so I could drain it dry. NOPE! First, I forgot to open the valve back up when I finished, second, it turns out that the valve I shut keeps air from going to the slide controls. Hence I have a problem. After cranking the slides in manually (No Fun!) I couldn’t get the locking pins to engage which in turn keeps the emergency brake from releasing. Finally went to bed and called Prevost in Nashville this morning. Mike was great. After listening to me go through everything and asking a few questions he had me check the valve previously mentioned. Suprise! Open the valve, the pins lock and all is well. Oh and one more thing. In my frustration last night I left a message for Jeff. Yeah, that Jeff. He called me this morning to check on me which was very kind. But when I told him what I’d done laughed at me! Can you believe that? 😉

Don’t be so hard on yourself Dean. You think your the 1st one? I’ve said from day one that 99% of our problems are self inflicted.
I got a couple of dewsies.Later

Don’t
feel bad Dean, I’ve had my share of slide and Crestron problems. No
wait, that’s a nightmare I occasionally have then wake up to my non
slide button pushing H.:) -
Dean,
my my first trip to,Jeff was to replace both side windows on my front slide when I couldn’t get it in.
after going through that I know a lot about the slides and how they work. At least yours didn’t cost as much to fix.
