  • Slides Will not come in!

Posted by Jerry on January 9, 2015 at 8:35 pm

I have a friend with a 2001 Vantare Double slide bus that I sold him about a year ago. It has HWH slides. He has had his slides extended out while sitting in his shop for the last 2 months.

He tried to bring them in yesterday, and they will not come in. Neither one. He says he can hear the pump running, but the pins will not release when he pushes the Retract switch. I had him make sure the bus was running while doing this, and it was, and he has checked all breakers he can find. What ever it is, is common to both.

He says his Level Low dash light is on.

    Anyone have any Ideas?

I would suggest he contact Ben or Rick at Parliament, or Donnie Myers. Only Vantare used the HWH on an H3 I think so Those are the only two resources I can think of that might be able to offer help.

My slides are Prevost, if I don’t have the level low knob in the the ride mode my slides will not operate at all

I’m a non slide guy, but could the level low be preventing the slides from retracting?

    Diane?

I never had a Level Low light on in my coach without puting the Level Low switch in one of the positions that makes it come on??? Don’t understand that ! Are you saying you can’t turn the level low off? Try levelling the coach manually…. turning everything off and starting over.

I could run my slides in and out with just the key on when everything was good with the batteries etc. I had trouble with the rear slide if the coach wasn’t level…. being that neither slide moves indicates that it’s probably not the slides but something else… mine were independent of each other.

Try moving the coach forward about a foot then shut it all down… making sure the brake is on and everything is shut down normally…then start the process over again.. our coach would move with the slides out. That may reset things.

Maybe a call to Ben or Rick is in order.

Ours worked so well I didn’t have to trouble shoot them except for the rear slide a couple of times.

Weird stuff happens when the batteries aren’t 100% too…another lesson we learned the hardway !!

    Good luck..

The slides will not operate when the level low is active that is the way our Prevost slides work, you must move the level low switch to drive position.

I have asked him about the level low switch, he says it is correct, and he hasn’t ever moved it.

I will tell him about your suggestions. The slides are trying to work, but won’t come in because the pins are not retracting first as usual, to allow them to come in. Maybe it is a sequence issue.

I’m not sure whether the locking pins are electric operated, or hydraulic.

The batteries are good, and he has the bus running while trying to move them, which is the proper procedure for the HWH slides, (or so I’m told)

Mine are like Diane says, they will work with the key on and not running as long as everything is good with the batteries.

Also, the green travel light is on, and the bus is at ride height.

He has Jim Marsh (VIP Luxury Coach) on retainer to help walk through issues like this, but sounds like he is out of ideas as well, and telling him to contact HWH.

I’ll post the results when we find the problem.

Good luck on talking to anyone at HWH… they are horrible to deal with unless you are just ordering parts.

Call Ben or Rick at Coachworx… they both know their stuff.

I have heard a complaint at one time about the air brake not communicating with the Slide Mechanism… at that point nothing will unlock or lock. Maybe go in and out of gear a few times and then put the brake on again?

Sure hope you get it worked out.

Also have HWH slides. Had an issue 3 yrs ago with front slide not retracting. Slide locks worked properly & turned out to be an equalizing cylinder which HWH guys quickly built one, tested & shipped. HWH folks were fine to work with in both troubleshooting & they even followed up with a phone call. Maybe they`ve changed ?
