  • Slide Maintenance Tip #1

Posted by John on February 23, 2013 at 7:46 pm

At POG 2011 I asked Prevost service about preventative maintenance on slides. I was surprised to hear there was none. That, to me, indicates a robust and reliable system, and my slide has been just that.

Last week, I noticed a couple of water drips inside, near the slide center, with the slide out. I was going to Prevost Nashville the next day so I decided to let them check it out.

What they found was a “bucket” of leaves, pine needles and twigs on top of the slide impeeding the ability to seal. Easy fix.

This tells me this is an area that should be routinely inspected. Maybe mine is worsened by the fact that I have the ZipDee over the slide, that may keep the air nozzles (that I have been tod blow off debris on closing the slide) from doing their job.

I plan th keep an eye on mine in the future.

Good post John, it may save someone the pain of paying for a new slide seal because debris poked a hole in it.

I just can’t seem to find my slide button!:)

After spending about a week parked on a heavily treed site at TGO I looked at the top of my slides before retracting them. Both were covered with leaves, seeds, and small twigs. I swept them clean as best I could using my washing brush and extension pole. When I got home I opened them back up and finished cleaning them and ended up with a small collection of live Oak leaves on the garage floor.

My next project is going to be an air blower that I can use to blow debris from the top of the slides before I retract them. John is right and it was evident if I had allowed my slides to close without first cleaning most of the stuff off some would have gotten pushed beneath the seal.

Until I get my long tube leaf blower made my solution will be to leave the slides out until I get enough speed up to blow the leaves from the slide roof. That should work.

Don’t know about you Tom, but I just spool up hoses and cords, air up and head out. No need to worry about detritus causing problems on a real bus….
