Slide help on an ’05 with factory slides.
I have an ’05 XLII and started having an issue where the first attempt to bring the front slide in always failed. It would deflate the seal, lift thew tag axle and not come in. You would either have to hold revs around 1500-2000 during slide operation or try twice at which point it was always 100% succesful on the second try.
I went to Prevost Ft Worth to have their slide tech correct the problem. He diagnosed it is the locking pins “kicking back” slightly during the first stage of slide operation so 4 of the 6 pins were still showing as locked even though they weren’t. Important to note are that the screens that cover the discahrge ports on the pheumatic slide manifold block that get obstructed over time had previously been removed. The suggestion was to replace the pneumatic valve black/manifold and they had a refurbed unit in stock.
So $2,500 later, it was installed and as soon as the tech applied air pressure to the new manifold (st the time the slide was out), it fully extended the pins against the slide which is obiovulsy not what it is supposed to do. The tech removed the screens that exhaust air from the newly installed manifold and reset everything. At that point, it acheived normal operation. I am however still concerned as it seems to me that a new part should be able to function with the screens installed so was possibly indicating an issue elsewhere.
Also, as soon as I pulled into Prevost and operated the slide (before service work), it functioned but was blinking error code 33 on the front slide which is over current. They did not have time to look into this but claim it is an unreleated issue. Now every time you operate the slide (in our out), you get error code 33 but everything does function as instended. Slide operation is smoth and there are no obstructions on the slide. The limit swtiches were also adjusted as the tech thought the slide was attempting to go to far in/out and causing the code but that did not help.
I will be heading to a different dealer if I can correct this myself.

It could be a issue with the bearings….

I would agree with Jeff and go further suggesting the start point is to measure the current draw and compare that value to what it should be.
If in fact it is higher than what is determined as normal there are also a lot of other reasons why the load on the motors, and thus higher current and they all have to be investigated.

Thanks for the input. I was hoping to investigate some of the posibilities but it doesn’t sound like you can get any technical info outside Prevost.
