  • Signature Line

Posted by Jon on May 25, 2025 at 3:32 pm

There is one deficiency on this site that to me is very important. In the previous site we had a signature line that included information about a member’s coach, toad, and home city. It is impossible to know a member’s level of expertise if he responds to a posted question. Far too often members who own one conversion think other conversions are similar or the same so both the questioner and answerer know the conversions each has and can either answer appropriately or know an answer might be invalid.

To answer questions about toads the same concerns are present.

The home base helps someone who may be looking at a distant coach what members live nearby and can look at the coach before spending air far to look at a dog, or knowing the home base aids a member who needs help to find local parts stores, towing, repair shops, etc.

There was also a way members could easily get another member’s email address by clicking on the member’s name.

No member was obligated to post this info in a signature line, but when that information was readily available it was worth its weight in gold.

I agree completely. The members information provides a lot of insight to the information provided.

We are working to resurrect this. Stay tuned.

After some research – here are our options for the signatures.

The forum software doesn’t include traditional signatures – instead, it pulls from user profiles. When you hover over or click on usernames, you’ll see their details pop up.

We have a couple of ways to handle this:

First option would be expanding those profiles to include more info like bios, RV descriptions, or other details. This is already built into the software, so it’s pretty straightforward to set up.

The other route would be creating custom signature boxes that work more like the old forum. This would require some custom development work on our end.

My personal opinion is the first option would be more than sufficient if the user is accessing the forum on a computer.

I understand that option 1 is easier, but a great many of us access the forum from a smart phone or a tablet. I very rarely use my PC to access the forum, so my vote is for option 2.

Why does this require custom development? Most forum software has been able to do this for years? What software did you guys use? Word Press? Based on the attached screenshot it is.

My personal opinion is neither signature option is acceptable. If one has spent a lot of time on active enthusiast forums over the past couple of decades having a proper signature block is expected because it adds value. Removing the signature block removes value. Removing time and date stamp removes value. Asking users to accept decreased functionality in the spirit of moving forward is the wrong approach to growing a successful community.

Also, I’m fine with learning something new, I spent my entire professional career in technology – so I get it. But learning something new is usually the by-product of innovation. The software platform chosen by Prevost Community doesn’t feel like it offers basic feature parity with what focused forum platforms have been delivering for decades. On the plus side, the improved mobile device capability is a win, albeit it still suffers from the same lack of basic forum functionality.

I’m sure lots of time and money was invested with good intentions, but it feels like a missed opportunity. Prevost owners that are DIY minded dearly need a viable and active forum – which FB is not.

    Let’s try option 1.

      I vote for #2

That way you don’t have to toggle back and forth from the post to the profile pages.

I wanted to provide an update on this subject. We are very close to getting the signatures back. We are asking the development team for a few tweaks and we should be good to go. I will provide an update once it has been implemented.

You can now create a signature!

    1. Click on your Profile Icon in the top right

    2. Select “Profile” then “Edit” in the menu

    3. Under “Edit Details”, you’ll see “Details” as well as “Forum Signature” click on “Forum Signature”

    4. A field for adding your Signature will appear

    5. Enter your information. If multiple lines of text are desired, press SHIFT RETURN to enter the second line of text.

    6. “Save Changes” when finished.

Thanks for adding that feature. Incidentally, if people would add a basic signature, it would really highlight the issue with older replies to posts being attributed to the wrong user. That’s still widespread.
