SHORE POWER TRIPPING BREAKER
My 50amp RV service panel has been working flawlessly since installed several months ago. Yesterday I saw the breaker on the house panel had tripped.
When I disconnect the cable to the bus, the breaker stays on with both the surge protector connected and the 30′ extension cable. As soon as I connect the bus cable to the extension it trips.
Inside the battery bay on the bus, the Shore power 60amp breaker has not tripped. When I trip the bus shore power breaker, then connect the bus shore power cable to the house, it trips the house breaker. We have had quite a bit of rain here in CA, but I don’t see a way for water to get down the shore power cable pipe.
Any suggestions on where/what to check out?

Try just the surge protector that may be the problem.

Maybe a bad shore power cord or plug. Try disconnecting the shore cord from the transfer switch, protect the wire ends and plug it in. If it trips you knoiw it is somewhere in the cable.

With Art’s most excellent help, literally walking me through the diagnosis, we have eliminated some possibilities.
As stated earlier, it isn’t the RV plug in port on the garage, nor the portable Surge protector, nor the heavy duty extension cable.
Shut off all the breakers in the bus, but the house breaker still tripped. We checked the continuity of the shore power cable, and it had continuity on all legs.
My next guess is that it may be an issue with the on bus Progressive Industires Electrical Management System?
Art thinks it’s tha power cable end, as once I got all the sheathing off there is some discoloration.

When you say the shore cable had continuity, does the shore power cable have continuity between the two hots, or between either hot and a neutral or ground?

I had a similar situation that ended up being a damaged plug due to moisture. I was a little complacent in protecting the connection between the coach’s cable and the extension cable.

BD Duplan- I meant there is continuity on each separate wire with itself within the cable. Unfortunately I was not able to really test resistance since I’m not getting any power.

Great tip! I did just that, and even after disconnecting the cable from the bus, the breaker still tripped.
Chad- Turns out that is exactly what is was for me too. Art was correct.
I’m going to get a new end or maybe a short cable with end and extend my cable to 40 feet or so.
