Shore power cable
Hi everyone, my question is about the connections on the side of our 96 Liberty 45XL. The cover says 50 Amp but when I connect the cable there is only a 30 Amp plug on the cable? Am I missing anything? I still have a the 50 Amp reel but there are times I could use the other cable. Any ideas or is the connection just a 30 Amp.

Connection is 50amp on the side of the coach, your cable is a step down so you could plug into 30 amp….Get a differant cable and you will have 50 amp…

Thank you, can those be ordered from Liberty Coach? Or do I need to get it from Prevost?
Thanks for the information I love this coach but I am still learning new things everyday. Maybe one day I will have it all figured out.

Jeff is correct.
This is a conversion feature, so Prevost probably won’t know what you’re talking about. Liberty might sell them, but there are lots of sources for them. West Marine and CampingWorld come to mind.
I was puzzled by the “format” of that outlet on the curb side of our Liberty. I saw only three prongs to plug into, but the 50amp plug on the cord on the other side of the coach has four prongs and all the 50amp RV receptacles I’ve seen are configured for four prongs. After some research I realized there is a “fourth prong” on the circumference of the outlet on the curb side (I kinda think its probably the ground). Continued research revealed that 50amp marine/RV cords have a special plug to plug into that receptacle. (See the picture I’ve attached.)
This was important to me because I’ve set our house and race shop up to plug the house/shop transfer swtich to plug into the 50amp “buddy plug” on the coach in case the power goes out and I needed to power the house/shop with the coach generator. I already have a Jamestown Advanced Products RV Power Outlet Box configured 50/30/20 … I should have gone with 50/50/20, my mistake) for shore power. I now wish Jamestown offered an Outlet Box configured for four possible receptacles that I’ve configure 50/50/20/50(male). The first three would be normally powered from the main panel in the race shop and the fourth one would be wired to the transfer switch so the cord plugged into it would be plugged into the coach’s “buddy plug”. So I ended up buying a Reliance 50amp Inlet Power Box from Northern Tool that our electrician wired to the transfer switch. (See the picture I’ve attached.) Home Depot might be offering the Reliance box at a lower price at this time.
I am about to purchase the cord and I think that Darrel is probably in the same position. Others must have bought these cords. Are there cords to stay away from? What is the best source for a good cord? I notice that Camping World has its 25′ cord on sale ($217 vs $319). Is that the cord to buy? What have others bought, been happy with, and where did you get it?
PS: I notice that Jamestown Advanced Products are offering a new feature to its lighted RV Power Outlet Box. Personalized Access Door!
I called Advanced and was hoping that they already had the artwork for Prevost or Liberty Coach or Prevost Community logo’s … but they don’t … maybe yet. I hope those are coming.

I learned something just walking by Mr Truk4u’s coach. And that is what a surge protector looks like. I stopped and snapped a picture of it with My communication device. Then i got to thinking , Dang i better get one of those. With new inverters and new batteries. I need to protect them. Turned out that Jeff had a used TRC model that he sold me worth the money. Thanks Mr Jeff !

All of the efforts to strip the bus of parts is intended to reduce weight so when the slides are added it will not exceed the axle weight limits. The bus does look funny without the outer skin panels however.

Well, I ran into this same situation as the original poster today. You would think after owning the coach for 6 yrs. I would have checked the ‘extra’ cords that Liberty supplied (just never needed them).
I see that the coach rear outlet says ’50 amp’ but is 3-pronged, the cord has a sticker on it that says ’50 amp’. But, it’s 3-pronged on both ends.
Actually, that works for me as I decided to connect from the rear in my California storage garage which is 30 amp. I have set the inverters for 30 amp. The garage connection is at the rear as I pull in forward and is on the passenger side. It’s only 2 ft. away once I’m parked. All these years I’ve been dragging the shore cord around the back of the coach to connect.
So, if the cord is 50 amp, why does it have a 3-pronged plug on the end that goes in the wall outlet? If I were needing a 50 amp connection at the rear at a RV park, is there an adapter to plug into a 50 amp outlet but will accept the 3-pronged 50 amp plug on Liberty’s 50 amp cord?
I see that Jeff says get a whole new cable but I would have to change the coach 3-prong connection to regular 4-prong, right?
Just seems strange that they did it that way as they also gave me a 50-to-30 amp dog bone along with all the cords supplied which I use for the regular shore cord.

Mark, are you talking about the coach electrical connection that looks like this? If so, the ground is on the side of the connector rather than a 4th prong. It is a 50A marine style connector. (Sorry for the huge photo…) If you’re saying that the spare cord has a 30A plug on the shore end, then I guess they did it so you can connect to 30A plugs when 50 wasn’t available. The manual references 30A connections if I recall, correctly, so that would make sense. My coach was stripped of any extra cords, so I have no idea what others might have.

Yes, thank you, the connection looks just like that. And, I understand the ‘4th’ prong is around the edge.
I just thought I could have a 50 amp connection on that side and was hoping for an adaptor vs. buying a new cord that would change the 30 amp wall connection to a 50 amp. No big deal tho.

Yeah, if the plug on the shore end is 30A, then you can’t use an adapter as that plug is only rated for 30A…bummer. I’m in the process of making a 25ft 50A cable, myself, for this curb side connection. I’m using a Marinco 6364CRN connector with a Marinco 7715CRN cover on the bus end, 6/4 SOOW cable, and (probably) a Hubbell HBL9451C on the shore end.
FYI, if interested, Marinco is also sold under the ParkPower label, and you may find better deals by searching that.

If you study the two images you will understand how 50amp, 30amp, and Marinco twist lock plugs are wired. Pay special note to the X, Y, W and G labeling of the connections.
