Shore power/ battery question
Just picked up the coach after sitting at the prevost service center for 10 days. No plug ins at this particular center so I turned off breakers and shut down the 12V. When I got home, I plugged it in to 30 amp and nothing came on? No usual “pop” of the breaker when I turned it on. I then switched to generator and everything started up. I’m guessing the house batteries (new 1 year ago) had drained pretty low in 10 days. Inverters show “normal” and on in the cockpit…..I’ve got the “smiley” face meaning they are operating. It says the batteries are charging “bulk” right now with the generator on.
I’m assuming I need to leave the generator on for a few hours to get a charge back to the house batteries so I can turn off the generator and let them charge back up using shore power. Hated to leave it unplugged but I had no choice while at the service center. Am I missing something?

More importantly, why did the house batteries not charge on the drive home? Unless you have a dedicated house alternator and the batteries were so dead they were not exciting the field.

I forgot to turn back on the 12V on the way home……I believe that needs to be on to charge the house batteries. How long should I let the generator run to get a charge back?

It could take easily 3 – 4 hours to charge. Don’t shut down the gen until it gets to float.

One of the inverters is on float now and the other is still on bulk charge. It’s only been 2 hours so I’ll let it go till I see float on both.

Sounds like what i had happen . When i connected and turned on the shore power no bump of the contactor in the transfer box and nothing came on,untill i started the generator. It was the time delay relay is was the orange one in the trasfer box

Silly me………I always use an exterior surge protector in the pole barn….yes, the batteries where low and the generator brought them back to “float” mode. Still nothing when I hit the breaker on the transfer switch. I decided after a half hour of checking things to check the surge protector…sure enough, it crapped out. I plugged in directly to the outlet and surprise, everything works! I guess I should check the “simple” things first.
