  • Shore Breaker Box Banging Noise?

Posted by DON on May 23, 2015 at 10:26 am

When I plug into my 50 amp plug there is a rythmic banging from the #1 curbside basements shore power breaker box. starts banging about once per second, like its trying to allow power onboard, the rythmic banging gradually slows and allows shore power on board. This doesn’t occur when the generator is used to power the coach.

    Thoughts?

Sounds like the time delay relay. Open that cover with shore and gen power off…..there will be two red or orange colored relays. They have a time device on top either a knob or push button adjustment knob…remove them and reverse their location from where they are know. If this is it it will now give you shore power however on gen you would have same issues until it is replaced. I have them in stock it need be….

I guess this is why everyone loves going to Jeff’s….if he can help in a quick reply, he does. Unlike car dealerships who simply would reply, “bring it in and we’ll whats going on.” Kuddos Jeff

I took the bad one apart, filed/cleaned the contacts, reinstalled it but didn’t fix it. It appears the little electro magnet isn’t strong enough anymore to hold the contacts together.

If I had fixed it I was gonna keep it for a spare.

Haven’t seen one of those GC (General ???) contact files for a looooong time. Used to be one in my shirt pocket back in the vacuum tube organ days! Sure brings back some memories. Tnx.

And glad you got your problem fixed.
