Severed wire on Pressure Pro Antenna
Posted by Chuck & Katrina on September 1, 2019 at 9:53 amHave the extension antenna for the Pressure Pro TPMS (with 50′ cable) installed on my coach. The wire got severed in the bay where it makes the transition to under the bus.
Does anyone know if the cable can be spliced to repair it. I am thinking two male connectors with a barrel connector, but not sure which brand/size to look for.
Tom, hoping you will chime in on this one

This is the connector for the wire ends (all are Amazon):
Amazon Standard Identification Number (ASIN) B00TB8IB12
10pack SMA Male Crimp Straight Connector For RG58/RG142/RG223/RG400/LMR195/RFC195 cables
by Siren(TM)The crimp tool is:ASIN B004IPMGM8Evertech Professional Coax Coaxial BNC Connector Crimp Crimping Tool – RG59 Siamese Cables for CCTV Security Cameras. BNC Connectors Crimper for RG55,RG58,RG59,RG62,5,6, 21, 140, 141, 142 Crimp Tool
by EvertechYou will also need a male to male connector to join the two newly “connectored” ends:ASIN B0169PS1RIOr if you don’t have enough slack to work with you could get a male -female ended cable and replace one of the two ends of your existing cable if routing is not too inaccessible. They come in various lengths, SMA is the key search word for the connector type RG58 cable:ASIN B078N4KQCHYOTENKO 16.4ft RF Jumper Cable SMA Male to SMA Female Low Loss and Two-Way Radio Cord RG58 Coax Cable 5M Applications Pure Copper WiFi Antenna Extension

Tom can probably get you a replacement cable cheaper that the cost of all the parts and tools needed.
Of course, routing the new cable is a bitch, especially if you did not do it initially. Jeff’s guys doing mine on ETLC’s lift was easy for me other than writing the check.
-
So where did you guys put the antenna? Somewhere in the back of the coach so that you get the sensors on all the coach tires PLUS the toad/trailer with a booster or special transmitter?
-
By the time the wire gets from the display/brain box down to the antenna, it ended up about half way back at best.
I have experienced NO dropouts with the extension and external antenna. It has be completely reliable.

Again following the advice of an older member, (Tom) I hung my remote antenna from the bracket for the generator exhaust that is just in front of the drive axle. I think this was in an earlier post of his with a picture. This puts it pretty near the centerline of the coach about 2/3? of the way back. It used all 50 feet of the antennae wire that Tom sent with the unit and it just barely made it. I ran the cable piggybacked onto some other wires under the left sill of the coach so did not have to do much wire pulling. Actually did it in the parking lot of a WalMart in Tucson while Susie was browsing an antique mall. It picks up the toad and all the coach sensors just fine.
When I say “just barely made it” it means I had to mount the inside unit on the left control panel and the rear end of it at that. That is how I learned of the fittings and cable sizes, I eventually bought some cable and fittings and made an extension and now have it mounted on the middle of the dash above my backup/side vision camera system (where it should be so you don’t have to turn your head to mess with it).
That is one suggestion for improvement, make the cable 60′ long for installation on our coaches, or if it was not 50′, make it 10′ longer than whatever it was.
-
The cable you guys got is 35’ not 50’. I learned that lesson later by a pissed off customer who installed it ass backwards, mounted in the rear and then went forward with the cable and it was short.
A new cable is 500 plus shipping, may be better off with an extension as David did and make it whatever length you need, it is SMA.

Good stuff. Thanks for the input everyone
Tom is extending the cable another 10’ like Dave did cause any significant signal lost? I definitely could us a little extra length

I don’t see a problem with it Chuck. I could run it by PP if you want.

There are tables of db loss per foot and all that geek stuff easily found on the web, but what they mean relative to this system is beyond my pay grade. I do know that I noticed no difference in performance when I extended it about 10 feet to run the wire through the steer compartment and behind the dash to put the display/control up front in the middle.
-
Actual results are better than geeks numbers for me. I see a longer cable run in my future.
Thanks David & Tom

My PressurePro black box is mounted near the driver’s side window so it is not in my line of sight while driving.
ETLC incorporated the display into the driver’s iPad. I can check it easily and it has an automatic function to shift to the PressurePro display should an alarm occur. I normally run the backup camera while driving and having the auto shift to PressurePro on an alarm is a welcomed feature.
The iPad display is in addition to the side mounted PressurePro control monitor. All the functions/alarms/displays of the monitor remain as a primary function.
I would have needed another 10 feet or so of antenna cable for a dash mount. The iPad integration takes care of that issue.

Mine is plugged in next to drivers seat with the antenna coiled up on the floor behind seat. No connection problems. I realize results will vary , bit before running the cable to far I would do some testing. I pick up tires on 20 foot trailer no problem

Tom, any word on a repeater for the regular PP (not legacy)?
My toad goes out quite a bit so I have been eagerly waiting.
-
Not yet Andy, the first version didn’t meet their standards, so still waiting.
-
Is the Pressure Pro normally available at ETLC? Tom do you actually sell these?
Assume they are the best as no other seem to be discussed on the PC
