Often buyers or new owners of a coach want to see the previous service records of the coach they own or are contemplating purchasing.

Is there a way these buyers or owners can access those Prevost service records? This was recently mentioned elsewhere on the forum relating to a discussion on air bags.

One way would be to have Prevost bill you through email. You would then set up a file to store these invoices and work receipts in your email providers server or somewhere else if you prefer.

These records are easily accesable, printable or forwardable.

This is also a good way for one on the road most of the time to receive their bill for prompt payment, bypassing mail forwarding services.

Sorry for the delay in answering this question. The service centers can provide a listing of the service orders that we have on a specific VIN. You must be able to prove you are the owner to have the search done.

The liost that you get will have dates and invoice numbers. If you want details you will have to ask for them by invoice number and they will try to provide them. We try to balance what we can legally give you and the amount of time required to find and assemble the information.

Not much help if you only get a date and service number. an idea of what the service was would be more helpful.

    Greg,

You will have the invoices in hand if you go through the procedure involving the previous owners written permission. I’ve done it and it just takes some time. I was at Nashvile, had the previous owners written permission and they printed out all they had for me.

To me maintenance records are critical. Without them an owner has no clue what maintenance event is due, or if it has ever been done. If you buy a coach the best time to pull those records is before the purchase to provide peace of mind. I have NEVER heard an owner say or an ad read the maintenance work was louysy and sporadic at best. Everyone says the coach was well maintained or words such as maintained by Prevost, or the converter, or someone equally intended to impress.

But the reality is if an owner doesn’t retain the records it is probable maintenance is hit or miss. So while it is likely Prevost can eventually provide whatever information they have as an owner, and especially as a new owner I take the position every service event is due and I begin my ownership by changing absolutely everything that is fluid or rubber, or has rubber components. Oil, coolant, Transynd, diff grease, etc, all filters, belts and hoses plus air bags if 10 years old, brake chambers and all Norgren valve. If you do not do your own work that represents a huge investment. If you do your own work it is pricey, but well worth it. My point is you cannot undo the past, but you can restart the process and can hope no damage has been done previously.

Our coaches aren’t cheap, are tough, but do need maintenance, and it just makes sense to respect the fact that with proper maintenance they will likely outlast any of us. But the best time to get the records is when dealing with the owner, or if a dealer either get a good maintenance event on the coach at the time of sale or documentation maintenance is up to date. I can hear a lot of sellers groaning at the previous comment, but compared to the cost of repairs, maintenance is cheap.

Jon- your correct in your thinking.

Prevost- what’s the big secret? Having to get the previous owners permission is rediculous. I’ve heard of Patient/Doctor and Attorney/Client confidentiality but Mechanic/Owner??????????? Please explain the reasoning here.

My bus I knew the previous owner and I talked to him before buying. In the process of finding out what I had I looked in every space I could find and I found info on the first owner (canada), maybe a second or third owner (no one home anymore), so my quess is that I am the Fifth owner. That’s a lot of permission slips to get for info.

My quess again is that it was maintained by Prevost and or Beaver but what was done I have no idea. I did run into a guy I thought had a Beaver/Prevost (his bus had Beaver etched windows) only to find out that he was at Mira Loma many years back and a guy (owner before me) was having all the windows replaced in his Beaver Bus. He also had the small RV style windows converted to the standard Prevost awning windows, all six of which leak water. Mira Loma would not tell me if they installed the windows, which most likely they did since not many people would drive one of these buses with all the windows out.

As the world changes with everyone protecting their private infomation, this I learned from the U of Missouri after Mike was enrolled. I the holder of the moo-la would be unable to view any info about Mike unless he waives the private protection of all his activities while at U of M. Yes, he had to authorize access to his grades, classes taken, classes dropped, activities added, dropped. He can also reverse the access at his choice. Mom had a very short conversation about this topic. She reminded him that his 4 years of college had been planned by years of saving in a 529 fund. Second he would grad. with no student loans. Moms have the power !!!

I guess Prevost decided to get permission before releasing personal info, not so much about the bus but access to owner personal information, which could be on invoices, maybe someone wrote a credit card number on the invoice or private phone numbers on work orders.

One more comment, as sellers sometimes” streatch” the things that are done in keeping the bus current on servive and we only find out after the fact ……little or nothing has been done. “

I think their policy is reasonable for the reasons Al stated. I don’t want my information or Prevost account number given to anyone without my permission.

I had no problem getting info on my coach before purchase, but it had never been sold before and was still sitting on the dealers lot, so I imagine that made a difference.

In any event, it is very nice to have whatever info you can get…the more the better!

Who’s asking for private information. Go to an auto dealer and ask what has been done to your car. I did and I got what was done and a date, period. That’s all I am asking for. I know the dealer or shop can only tell you what has been done in their system. No one’s asking for a data dump.

I bought my coach from Prevost in Jacksonville. It was a one owner. Prevost couldn’t find the service records or wasn’t sure if they had got them from the previous owner. So I called the previous owner and they said they had traded 3 coaches and sent all service records with them when they bought 3 new coaches. Oh well, Guess I’ll never know what has or hasn’t been done to my coach. Explain’s why my coach is just sitting idle jacked up with a major air system problem. Turns out the wet tank had never been drained or the AD 2 dryer serviced and I believe the water and sludge in the wet tank got into all the rest of the the air system. Can Prevost help me get the records on this motorcoach?

    Mike,

With proof of ownership Prevost will provide you with service records for all work they did on your coach. What they cannot do is provide service information for work done by others. The JAX service manager can put you in touch with the right person at Prevost regarding a print out for your serial number.

Unfortunately service history on coaches is very difficult to reconstruct because owners never seem to retain them.

Jon, Thanks for the info! I will contact the Jax service manager and see if he can help. I would like to know what else has not been maintained on this coach by the previous owner.
