Posted by Peter on January 17, 2014 at 8:08 am

Took bus for a drive yesterday the secondary gauge seem to be going up and down until compressor would kick in then would build air to 120 then compressor on motor would cut off very strange, when I got home I check all fittings no leaks with key on park brake off what do you guys think???????

Peter, have you run a standard DOT brake check to see if pressures are holding?

Usually if brake system pressure cycles while driving and not using brakes it is an indication of a failed or failing emergency brake diaphragm. However it could just as easily be a relay valve or quick release valve acting up if the problem went away.

Everything good on brake test , do it every time I drive found new air dyer leaking at purge valve replaced governor and stop the cycling and loss of air just put new brake chambers and hose all the way round . Thanks Jon Maybe it was stuck valve or relay , the wabco air dryers do funny things some times but when I put governor on it quit leaking air out purge valve !!!!!!!!

By secondary gauge, do you mean brake pressure #2 or aux air? I have never had this occur on either brake pressure gauge. I have encountered this issue several times on aux. One time, I had a major air leak in one of the belt tensioning bellows. Every other time it ocurred, it went away by itself after awhile. As I recall, it may happen more frequently in cold temps and may be some sort of temporarily sticking valve.

I have primary gauge and secondary gauge and auxiliary gauge it was moving secondary gauge

Took it for drive did not do it today , prime and secondary will hold air for months aux gauge sat for month and held air ,it’s a tight system ,might have been sticking valve ,but new governor might have helped !!!
