  • Schmutz in my ice

Posted by Karl on May 3, 2016 at 11:54 am

I have a question…. Everytime I have a glass of water with ice I get a sediment of crystals in the bottom of the glass once the ice melts. I am pretty sure that it is the stuff Libety uses to keep the pipes from hardening and I refilled it myself a couple years ago. Yesterday I dropped off the bus for service and asked Troy about it and he says it’s because the ice maker on the SubZero fridges can’t use the R/O water. What do you think? Has anyone else worked around this, seen it, or just live with it?

    Karl,

Do you have a separate filter inside the Sub-Zero? We requested a Jenn-Air fridge to be installed and it has a separate filter inside (change once a year). We have not had good luck with Sub-Zero fridges/wine coolers at home and didn’t want one bouncing down the road in the MoHo. We had enough trouble when they sit still in the house.

So, no, I haven’t noticed any Schumtz.

Karl, you drink water from the sewer and you’re worried about schmutz ? Geo.

Talk slow, Karl because I need a good explaination about how and why a Sub-Zero can’t use RO water.

How does it know where the water comes from? And like Geo I’m curious about your willingness to drink water from your water tank, but you are worried about the crud from melting ice cubes. You don’t really put ice in your wine do you?

No, Mark, no separate filter in ours. As to SubZero, we like them. Until our upgrades we didn’t have pure sign wave inverters so the fridge gave up both compressors in the last two years. SubZero stepped up and took care of both of them. Not bad for a coach built in 2004!

George, understand that we don’t drink directly from the sewer hose. First we filter it through a paper towel. Delish! 😉

Put some Crown Royal in with the ice and you won’t see it

Good idea. Reminds me of this trip to Oysterfest. Getting ready to pull out I notice Natalie has a glass of champagne, whereupon it dawned on me that I was driving the entire way…

Uh huh. I had to remind her that this isn’t business class, it is “coach”.
