Santa Barbara, CA ??? Lake Cachuma
Have any of you parked/camped at Lake Cachuma, CA about 15 miles NW of Santa Barbara? I am looking for parking options for this summer without having to go over to Flying Flags at Buellton. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Tony,
I live about 25 miles from Santa Barbara and I have never camped
with my bus at Lake Cachuma. Its been a while since I camped there at all (with a
tent) but unless things have changed, it maybe a tight fit for a bus. Be sure
to check clearances before you head up the 154 there are some low bridges. Lake
Casitus in Ojai may be a better bet, they have the room for a bus (been there)
so I can vouch for that. Its much nicer too I think then Lake Cachuma and of course
the fishing and hiking is wonderful. Casitus is booked fairly far in advance

we camped just north of Santa Barbara and south of Los olives at Lake Cachuma county park that has great facilities. Very accessible to Solvang & Santa Barbara. Be sure to visit LosOlivo (great little town). We also stayed at Gaviota state park which was VERY windy. We left Gaviota after a day because of the wind.

forgot to say, not sure where you are from but a great campground south of Los Angeles but north of San Diego is SanClemente state park. There are three parks in San Clemente State park, San Mateo, San Clemente (bluffs) and San onofre. They are a jewel in the calif park system and the town of San Clemente is charming.

We like Ocean Mesa at El Capitan. Some of the sites are tough to get a 45’er into. If possible try to get the first sites off the main road thaat you can pull directly into. Weather is perfect and Santa Barbara is a short drive. Much prefer this park over Flying Flags.

Did have Lake Cachuma have pretty good availability for 45′ rigs? They don’t take reservations and I will just have to just risk it. Thanks.

Tony,
Be sure to check the CDOT site to make sure that you can legally take your 45 foot bus on the road to get to the campground. The CHIPs are notorious for picking on motorhomes for the 65 foot total length and the 45 foot vehicle limitations.
